Clean up Preferences and Administration.
Launchers under "System > Preferences" and "System > Administration" have similar names, leads to confusion. (#174277)

First of all: What is the difference between Preferences and Administration? For example: why do I see 'Encryption and Keyrings' in Preferences and 'Keyring Manager' in Administration? What is the difference between 'Default Printer' and 'Printing'? Why do I have to disable the Tracker under Sessions and not under Search and Indexing? And why are these menu's so large? I have 24 items in Preferences (they don't even fit on my screen!) and 18 items in Administration. To put all this stuff in a popup menu is bad interface design imho. Besides, the number of option should be much smaller. A few suggestions:
- Merge 'Screensaver', 'Screen Resolution' and 'Screens and Graphics'.
- Merge 'Network', 'Network Proxy' and 'Network Tools'.
- Merge 'Update Manager, Synaptic Package Manager, Software Sources'.
- Merge 'Encryption and Keyrings', 'Authorizations', 'Keyring Manager'.
Below are all settings I can visit via the System menu. This is just way too much.

Make Wine 1.0 available in Hardy (through hardy-updates). This makes it easier for some companies who depend on XP software (which already works well in wine) to make the transition to Ubuntu.
IMHO it would be nice to release wine 1.0 through hardy-updates so everyone who hasn't disabled hardy-updates will get it. The wine 1.0 branch will probably continue to receive important updates making it easier for Ubuntu to maintain.
According to Eric S. Raymond's "World Domination 201" Wine is very important for Linux to become successful on the desktop.
Why wine is so important :
http://www.winehq.org/site/why
http://catb.org/~esr/writings/world-domination/world-domination-201.html
Wine 1.0 will release on june 6th. Hardy will release on june 5th. This makes it impossible to include wine 1.0 in Hardy except through hardy-backports or hardy-updates.

Developer comments
Wine 1.0 is released for Gutsy and Hardy through backports.
It will be available via update too soon on Hardy.

Please release future releases in DVD ISO distro's too please.
I use the unoficial DVD ISO's to set up many machines: servers, desktops, laptops, gnome & kde, and use same ISO for USB live-pendrive setup. On-site bootup & troubleshooting
Need something that is as complete as possible for when I do not have access to the web, and don't want to go digging around for some driver that should have been there to start off with (know this could be problematic for some archane hardware). Aslo include drivers for Intel Mac's & eeePC, as this is standardised hardware

Too often I have to select images with cryptic file names from a file chooser. Because I can't see the images I typically have to open the folder I am browsing separately so I can find image I am looking for, remember the cryptic name, and return to the file dialogue to select the file I want.
This could be easier if their was an option to view thumbnails, or to at least preview the image.
Developer comments
File preview is now in Hardy.

Nautilus should be cleverer when using FAT partitions

I *must* use FAT partitions on my USB disk and external back-up harddrive, just in case I need to use them with a Windows machine. Since we must use FAT, and we must use it for critical things, and for copying lots of files sometimes, Nautilus needs to handle FAT partitions in a much cleverer way.
Currently, Nautilus makes these mistakes:
When copying from a FAT partition: every file has unlimited permissions and is executable. This is highly irritating
When copying to a FAT partition: file names that are not compatible with FAT are not copied. The warning window you're given doesn't properly display the filename, if it's located too far into nested directories, and no record is made of what files weren't copied. Worse... some files are copied on top of others, since FAT doesn't distinguish capitalised filenames and uncapitalised filenames like ext3 does.
Possible solutions:
A rick-click utility on a directory tree to make it "FAT safe", renaming all files that contain illegal characters on a FAT partition, and that safely rename files that are in the same directory and distinguished just by capitals, etc.
Nautilus does those things automatically when you copy & paste
When copying from a FAT partition, Nautilus asks you what permissions to give the files it copies
Nautilus logs what files are not copied when copying to a FAT partition, and dumps the log file in your home directory.

Panel Deletion need double confirm

When using Xubuntu, it is useful to remove some item on the panel. However, it is also easy to delete a whole panel, or some essential area of a panel (e.g. notification area).
These are suggestion:
1) Panel and items on panel should have "no delete" option. Any attempt to remove "no delete" item need double confirm.
2) Panel itself and notification area should be by default "no delete"
3) There should be some handy way (right click), just in case all panels are deleted, user can restore it.
It improvement is not needed for people using Xubuntu quite a while, but is needed for newbie who is brave enough to reorganize the panel (especially I love M$ Windows style panel look and feel but I want opensource implementation).

I know this have been prolly said so many times, but the only reason i do not completely go to ubuntu is because of Games for Windows.
I want them to work in Ubuntu, i really do, the moment that happens, you will get a huge amount of people leaving Windows.
