Adopt a newbie Project   forum
Written by climatewarrior the 9 Apr 08 at 14:15. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I would be great if Ubuntu set up a team of volunteers that are willing to help newbies get started.(I know this already exists in the form of the forums/irc/mailing lists etc but this is different). It would be something like this. Noob goes to Ubuntu site because he has a problem or a question and sees the voluntary tech support page. He then applies for having his own tutor for getting started with Ubuntu. Then a tutor is assigned from the already available pool of volunteers. After the tutor is assigned the contact info is given to the noob. Then they could go and chat trough irc to get to know each other and to answer all of the noobs question. Also the volunteer could help out configuring the noobs system using vnc or something like that. I think it would make some people more comfortable and it would show the power of the free software community. This only meant to compliment the other already existing forms of voluntary tech support.

Don't stop bug fixing!
Written by caligarn the 27 Apr 08 at 14:35. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. Already implemented
Just because Ubuntu is now released does not mean that bugs shouldn't be uploaded into the Update Manager as rigorously as they were during the month before April 24th! Hardy is still buggy, so I think that the entire 6 months between Hardy and Ibex should continue that trend of HARDINESS. It should fit its definition! Keep getting stronger and stronger.

I've got "ubuntu" and "hardy heron" on google-alerts, so I can read all the latest blog posts and news articles that are coming up lately. There's a lot of critisms. I recommend we address those criticisms thoroughly and completely in the next 6 months, and I mean, address them tirelessly and rigorously.

There needs to be a way in which we can monitor all the complaints, criticisms, etc. in one place so that they're in a database, easily accessible. Meaning, can we consolidate the critiques that show up in the blogosphere, ubuntuforums, brainstorm and launchpad? Maybe something similar to ubuntustats.com.

What do ya'll think?

Ubuntu shop
Written by zannabianca the 5 Aug 08 at 19:30. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
In lot of comments on the web about linux I found this comments :"Try to spend sime time learning Linux/debian/ubuntu basics". This is true , there always to learn, and if I forget I google and I found the exacly sintax of a command or a read a guide.
The assistance, and the learn of linux is another point of difficulty in Ubuntu.
If I have a problem with the configuration of windows I go to the near computer shop and I give the computer in assistance. If I have a problem on ubuntu :
1) I search in all post on the ubuntu forum ;
2) I search in google;
3) I post in the ubuntu forum
But not all the time I find the solution.
Ubuntu is probably a better OS, but have less assistance than Windows and Apple.
With ubuntu shop, you can buy a computer with ubuntu preinstalled, you can have assistance if you have some problem and you can buy hw that works with ubuntu.

Written by climatewarrior the 4 Jul 08 at 23:23. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Auto-NDISwrapper is a project that aims to automate the whole process of setting up wireless cards with NDISwrapper. To help all you need to do is to fill out a simple form. Please make sure to fill it out with the correct information.

Thanks!

Adopt the "Notebook Remix" theme for Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Written by climatewarrior the 5 Jun 08 at 20:30. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I think that the "Notebook Remix" theme is great. It is sexy, bold and innovative, just like GNU/Linux ;). http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/03/canonical-makes-ubuntu-netbook-remix-officia l-at-computex/
I know that a lot of people don't like the "brown" in Ubuntu but this variation of the theme is way better. What do you think? I think its great because it sets Ubuntu apart from all others but at the same time its simple and elegant.

P.S By theme I mean just the color and art. Not the interface itself.

Make a tipjar available for each software entry in Add/Remove
Written by climatewarrior the 23 May 08 at 22:00. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be cool if besides every entry on Add/Remove there were a "tipjar" button that would lead you to its corresponding project donations page. This would help raise funds for FOSS projects and its a good way for people to be able to say thanks to the projects developers if they like their software. It would also be cool if on the About Ubuntu/KDE/GNOME there were also tipjars available for each of this projects.

Download dependencies option on packages.ubuntu.com
Written by soulcheck the 26 Mar 08 at 12:18. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be nice to have an option to download a desired package along with it dependencies on packages.ubuntu.com (I mean using browser, not a package manager)

Sure, aptitude, synaptic or whaterever else is a better way to manage mackages, but with no internet connection this way could be faster.

Obviously choosing all dependencies without any filtering would cause to download a big part of dependency tree, so this option could accept some kind of list of packages which user already has installed on his system as input.

Cyclic desktop
Written by fcsonline the 31 Mar 08 at 10:16. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be interesting to add an option to choose between the typical virtual desks and a new cyclic desktop, rendered by compiz fusion, may choose the length.

It's better to understand the concept in the main image:

http://www.360desktop.com/

Already it is a little eye-candy but as option would be great!.
