I just put in a Brainstorm with a typo in the title. You should be able to fix this.

Make all Ubuntu applications available via Add/Remove
Written by blogage.de the 5 Mar 08 at 11:28. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Currently you don't finde all of the applications which are available in the Ubunut repositories in the Add/Remove dialog. For some of them you have to use either apt-get or synaptic - which both aren't very newbie friendly.

Utunes: Itunes clone for ubuntu.
Written by tomatz the 5 Mar 08 at 11:22. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Yeah we all know amarok already does this effectively (though sometimes buggy under gnome) and we also have gtk-pod which I personally dont like. I think we should have our own dedicated Ipod media player "Utunes" as so many people have I pods and want to use them just as they do on windows/mac. Recently novell did a survey of what linux users most wanted ported. Itunes came in the top ten.

Apple should have already ported Itunes to linux and that annoys me as they rip off konquror and call it safari but they cant even be bothered to support the ipod on linux!

Make WINE a part of the default install
Written by darth_indy the 28 Feb 08 at 15:48. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
So many people have Windows programs as the only thing keeping them from making a full transition from Windows to Linux. Perhaps it would be possible to make WINE a part of the Ubuntu install, so newbies could still use many of their Windows programs? Perhaps the first time they click on an EXE a window would pop up, saying that it'll run in WINE and may not work (as WINE is not quite perfect - yet anyways).

Replace Firefox with Epiphany as the default webbrowser

Unlike Epiphnay, Firefox is not a real GNOME application, even with the enhanced native look which has been introduced by Firefox 3.0.

Epiphany is a very simple browser, more conforming to the spirit of GNOME, which lacks a lot of the features of Firefox. However, I think most people will probably not need Firefox' extra features and plugins. Those who do need Firefox could easily download it when Epiphany becomes the default webbrowser included out-of-the-box in Ubuntu. Ubuntu should aim for consistency, and Epiphany certainly is a better candidate than Firefox if consistency is the goal.

Epiphany currently uses the Gecko-engine for rendering, but will probably feature WebKit - http://live.gnome.org/Epiphany/WebKit - soon. WebKit would probably do a better job than Gecko.

Because somehow Ubuntu brainstorm says the Blueprint URL I gave isn't valid, I give it here in the text: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/epiphany-default-browser

Include Compiz Fusion Manager by default

Developer comments
Sorry, but no. The stack has to mature. DRI2, drivers and default settings of compiz are the things that need attention. Adding and enabling "power-user"-features by default, which are only used by a fraction of the whole user-base, is an unnecessary introduction of UI-clutter we try to avoid.

Universal GUI for all commands
Written by Peter Wilson the 29 Feb 08 at 02:52. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There are any number of Brainstorm requests for GUI front ends to Ubuntu commands. Why not have a universal command prompter which can be invoked from the command line or from within scripts. Highlighting the command name and then hitting F4 (say) would invoke the prompter.

This could:
1. Provide combo boxes for limited lists of values and also numeric, date, time validation etc.
2. Options (e.g, ls -aisn) could expand to a list of check boxes with the option chatacter and a brief description).
3. Paths could have a file/directory lookup.
4. Provide Accept or Cancel options. The accept option would replace the existing command line string (i.e this is not a command executer).
5. Help option to access manpage from the prompter.
6. To present existing parameter values, the parser used by the prompter would have to be smart enough to extract single commands from piped commands.

Each command could provide a command description/script to drive the prompter.

The IBM System/38 and AS/400 had a similar system 25 years ago.

Unmount stuff by dragging to recycle bin
Written by terra the 28 Feb 08 at 23:51. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I know it's just like OS X, but it's very intuitive. Not sure if its possible, but shouldn't realistically be _too_ difficult..
