Sometimes it becomes annoying when asking for passwords becomes too much like changing date or time, checking updates etc.please correct some annoying messages and password prompts wherever unnecessary.I dont see adjusting system time or date hurts users,in xp users have ability to change date/time.also if there is single user on pc
who can benefit setting wrong time/date,almost linux is more secure than xp/windows so no point asking passwords where it is unneccesary stuff/minuscule change to system.

Add automated page fire creation (swap) to a usb flash drive.

Add automated page fire creation (r-click) option when a usb flash drive is mounted. This would be great for laptops (and desktops) low on physical memory (512MB or less) as usb flash seek time is only 2ms which makes it much faster than a traditional page file/swap partition. I have implemented this myself on my eeepc and it defiantly gives you a performance boost but its quite messy having to create "swapon" scripts and whatnot. This is already implemented in vista in the form of readyboost ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost)

Nautilus should show text-based location bar by default

Before I figured out the button with a paper and a pen on it located on the left of all the location buttons is used for switching between button and text-based location bars, I thought there was no way of typing the location by hand in Nautilus.
I think Nautilus should either show the text-based location bar by default or by replacing the current button with a one that can better describe its job by the illustration on it.

Get google off of the default homepage

Every time you open firefox, and try to type in a url, focus shifts to the google search. If I wanted Google for my homepage, I'd make it my homepage. Some people might say that instead of getting rid of it, there should be a change in the way focus works. I disagree. When I go to Google, I like to have focus shift to the search, but when I go to my homepage/release notes, I want to be able to immediately start typing the url of the page I'm going to, instead of typing half of it while the page loads and the other half in google. Also, if you're going to have google on the homepage, at least have it link to results that give you access to image results too.

Don't require password for installation through add/remove programs

On a regular Ubuntu installation, there is no reason you should type your password before installing applications through add/remove programs. It only contains applications that are in the Ubuntu repositories and are safe to install. It is not possible to remove essential parts of the system through it.
If a user has rights to install programs, they can do it anyway, asking them to type their password has no added value. Requiring a password here only trains users to type their password whenever a dialog pops up that asks for it. It should be reserved for situations where it is really necessary, like situations where you could harm your system by making changes.
Policykit allows to selectively set permissions for things like this. A password should not be needed for installing programs, to be cautious it could be kept required for removing applications.

64bit Ubuntu should be the new standard target. i386 for legacy support

Hi,
Being that all the 32 bit users are complaining about moving to i686 (from i386) and how it will break their old systems, why don't we just officially support the 64bit edition as the primary standard. All new processors are 64 bit now anyway, and you automatically get all the processor enhancements when switching to 64bit (guaranteed to support sse2, extended register sets, etc)
Problem is now that if you want to run 64bit, you lose compatibility with lots of stuff. Its not as well tested. It isn't the default installation being used. So you are either stuck with a low performance i386 distribution of an untested 64bit distribution.
Its tiring hearing about the i386 users who will be adversely affected if we move to i686. Well, lets just forget it all together and move straight to 64bit and leave them all with i386 as the backup. It should kill two birds with one stone (get us all on 64bit which is the future, and get us all on modern -march settings in gcc) and all the i386 lovers out there can still have their i386 compiled binaries.

Usplash (the spash screen shown during startup) currently bows out once gdm flips the vt. It would be better if it continued to display while X started, and only switched when gdm is completely ready for login. And when autologin is enabled, it should continue until the desktop is fully loaded and ready to use.

every time I used to try and drag something to the trash, I would accidentally drag it to another workspace. It was driving me insane. I eventually decided to move my trash icon away from the right of the screen, so now it is on the other side of my workspace switcher. If a new user is skeptical, it might take one annoying thing to close their mind to change, so I propose we have what I did (which only took a few seconds) as the default setup.
what do YOU think?

Electric Sheep is a psychedelic, open source screen saver that updates quite frequently.
If you haven't seen it yet: http://electricsheep.org/
I'm NOT saying that it would be the default, but I feel it should be included.

Not only will this help the people get involved, but might inspire more people to contribute other ideas, and in other areas as well.
This could also be promoted on the web and might help to bring some extra exposure to this great distro.
Added bonus: Hours of laughter provided by the no-doubt hilarious ideas for new names!

Ubuntu should ignore all negative votes to my ideas

The reason I am being downvoted is definitely related to people not deciding the vote correctly, because they focus on aspects of my suggestions that are not the priority. This is the reason Ubuntu ought to ignore all the negative votes I am getting since it is obvious that people are downvoting me for the wrong reason.

The only thing that stops people I know from using a single Ubuntu install is Ubuntu being incapable of running an HD movie on a proper framerate. Mplayer seems to be running something near smooth but it's not great.
Totem should have more capabilities for HD movies.

Automatic block ubuntu from accessing the ip addressess of these sites by:-
1, using openDNS as the DNS server, This gives phishing protection.
2, Block the sites on the www.stopbadware.org list, in a similar way that google does. This should be able to be undone if needed.
