I hate it when I have to do a lenghty update(such as when first installing Ubuntu)but being in a rush and not having enough time to wait for the PC to update in order to shut it down.
I suggest a "Shut down computer when update complete" option in Ubuntu Update Manager.

(Should be marked as implemented)
Currently,in the Hardy Heron Beta the Pidgin version is 2.3. A new version has been released,2.4.1,wich solves many problem, for example the file transfer send/recieve problem on the yahoo protocol.
I suggest upgrading pidgin to the latest version, because there are many improvements ;-)

Right now if one removes a usb device without unmounting it the icon for it remains on the desktop, and we soon end with 7-8 icons of the same device in some cases(for example i have a usb hard drive with separate power, but it pretty much plugs itself out,so i ended up with 8 different "PackardBell" drives on my desktop, and knowing not what to chose)
Can't this be fixed? The icon on the desktop only dissapears if the device is unmounted.

Right now, when I connect an Bluetooth stick or USB Headphones,Ubuntu does nothing to show me that.I suggest something trough libnotify to show me that a bluetooth/usb headphone/ has been connected.
I mean,windows has this,it makes life easier,why couldn`t we have this?

Case: Bob has selected many programs and games to install on his new and shiny Ubuntu system. But there is one problem. The files are so big,the Install Manager tells him there are 2 hours remaining to download. He says that it's okay, and starts working on a word document in Writer.A friend of him calls, urgently needing him in the city.Forgetting about the downloading programs,he shuts down the PC,just to find out at the next boot that the programs he wanted to install must be reselected and redownloaded.
I suggest either an alert when trying to shut down while installing programs,or some kind of "download resume" that will take effect on next boot.
Let's help Bob out :-)

By default,Hardy starts on Login the bluetooth applet (i don't have a bt stick,so I don't have any use for it) the evolution mail applet (i don't use this either) the restricted drivers manager (haven't that finished it's job on first boot-up?)Something called user folder update of wich i know nothing and assistive technologies(i don't think so many disabled people are using Ubuntu in order to put this at boot-up.)
A cleanup is needed.I don't know much about system daemons, but there could be useless daemons there too.
P.S.-The correct path is System->Preferences->Sessions,sorry for the mistake

Currently we have a few bunch of fonts in the default Ubuntu install, many of them wich are for languages with other characters, rarely used by speakers of languages wich use the Roman alphabet.
I suggest these fonts should be installed only if the system language is selected as Arabic or other language for wich a font now exists, and in place of those provide some Latin alphabet based fonts (the Red Hat Liberation fonts I hear that are good).
Also, some stylised fonts could be included for use in special applications (For example,an Egyptian-like font for use in presentations/invitations made with OpenOffice.org)

Make the GNOME project wake up

Won't implement
|
|
Since 2.0 from what I've seen, there haven't been many improvements.GNOME tries to be stable, and in some respects, that is the right thing to do.But if GNOME doesn't catch up with the latest technologies/innovations,it will remain just an old, unused DE.And we don't want that, because it is a very stable and nice Desktop Envirronment.
Developer comments
This should be communicated upstream to GNOME itself and isn't an Ubuntu-specific idea.

I know this may be a firefox related question, but oh well...
In winblows, when I scrooled the wheel with my mouse being on a flash(like the flash videos on youtube) it will continue scrooling. In ubuntu if I scrool with the cursor on the flash,it does nothing.
Try it for yourself. You shall see.
I think this is totally stupid and should be solved

I think that Pidgin's .gif rendering is broken. For example the :-@ (bla bla) and :-P (tongue) emoticons on the Yahoo protocol are not shown correctly(the first one moves too fast, the latter has pixels remaining in the second stage of the animation)
The .gif's that I used for my theme are from http://messenger.yahoo.com/emoticons.php and they show perfectly in Mozilla Firefox.
I think it is something wrong in Pidgin

I suggest replacing the default package with mozilla-mplayer

Or fix GDebi
Right now,GDebi KDE locks the computer and crashes when trying to install a package with it.It should work like GDebi in GNOME-seamless,fast and easy- but it's slow, sluggish and broken.
A package installer like GDebi will be very well accepted by newbies in the KDE community :-)

GUI for ntfsfix

not once did I had a problem with my external (ntfs) hard drive or my windows partition,in that i wasn't able to mount it without going to the command-line ntfsfix.
I found this util by long searches on google.
It is a wonderful piece of software, that solves many problems associated with corrupted NTFS drives.
But,I think it would be more useful if we:
1-Had an GUI for it
2-Had it start automatically when HAL tries to mount an NTFS volume and returns an error(or at least an option to start it in the "Cannot mount volume" dialog)
P.S.:The mount error dialogue also is in geek-language.I am offering to translate, and I'm available for making documentation too ;-)(but I ain't certain to where/how to get involved in the project)
P.P.S: Please express your idea before voting down.I do think that this usability problem scares out many new Ubuntu users

Remove "Download alternate CD" link on Ubuntu Server download page

When downloading Ubuntu server edition, there is a checkmark to wheter we want the alternate cd or not.
From what I know so far,the difference between an normal and alternate cd is that the normal cd acts as a live cd with a GUI installer, and the alternate one acts as a command-line installer.
As Ubuntu server edition is command-line only,I see no logic to offer an "alternate cd".

Nokia Partnership to create PC Suite?

Something like Apple did with Nokia in order to provide compatibility of Nokia phones in it's iSync software.
Me and new users simply DON'T CARE if the protocol is open or not,all we care is to get our phones working.
Yes,I know all the open-source libre-software yada yada, but I also know what I want.I want a phone that really works.I do not care about ideologies or other things.
Do not get me wrong,I love ubuntu, and I hate M$ and Windows, but this is silly. Many companies are shy about porting their apps to Linux only because of this "open-ideology" thingie.Accept proprietary sw,when you can't get something better.Anyway,it's better than nothing.

Right now, ubuntu versions have funny codenames like Gutsy Gibbon,Hardy Heron, etc.
They sound great in English, but many users are not english-speaking(Here in Romania many people that I converted to Ubuntu love it,but they don't know a word in English)
I think it would be a great thing if each language had it's "translation" of the english codename.
Maybe we could involve the Ubuntu LoCo in this project.

I don't know if this is possible/worth it,but at least here in Romania,Yahoo Messenger is being used by absolutely everyone. It's a big pain in the *** to use Pidgin.Sure,it can send (and recieve!)files now,but webcam, photo share and other features are missing.GYachI looks promising, but it's interface scares the user out.
Can't Canonical make a partnership with Yahoo to at least get part of the code,in order to make a compatible Yahoo messenger client for Linux/Unix?
I don't really care if the final product(if it will exist) will be GPL'ed or not,I just want to use it(as I use Skype, but unfortunately that's not so popular, only 3 contacts in my list)
Sorry for my preety crappy english
