Well the title says it all...
The ideas which are modified, due to something that you were not aware at the time of posting idea. So you add this info afterwards, should be reintroduced on latest ideas list.
For example: I posted this idea: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/8251/, but forgot to write how to actually do this idea.
So I took time to think about it.
--------------------------------
this is good, because it allows you to insert new info about your idea, which you got from the comments or on net, even if the idea was posted long time ago.
---------------------------------
Some of this info can completely change the whole point of idea or improve it or make it easier to understand.
----
This idea could be a bit confusing, but sorry I can't put it better in words than this.

Synaptic: simultaneous download if downloading from several servers
|
|
Written by steve196 the 10 May 08 at 10:25.
Global category: System.
Already implemented
|
|
Although i am opposed to synaptic doing simultaneous downloads from one server, i think, if it downloads from several servers (for example standard, medibuntu and winehq repos), it should download one file from each simultaneously instead of waiting for downloads from comparatively slow sources to complete in order to start the others.
Of course, this needs an upper limit. In case there is a lot of different repos i think, the maximum number of simultaneous downloads should be something like three or four.
edit: Several comments to this idea have said, that this is already implemented. At the minute i cannot verify or falsify that, but i tend to believe, they are right.

Support the develpment of Linux filesystem drivers for Windows and other systems

I know this is not Canonical business, but if ubuntu, and Linux in general want to gain popularity, its better if the filesystem they use is easy to be acessed by other systems...
Creating good drivers to read common Linux filesystems in Windows, and possibly Mac, etc...
There are different projects out there, but some can only read the filesystem, others may be unsafe (corrupt the filesystem) or make the computer unstable or have some usability issues...
Simply create/endorse safe ("ubuntu approved" or something...) drivers to read/write ubuntu (and linux in general) filesystems... something that work "outside the box", easily on smoothly...

I want a pretty shadow for my mouse cursor/pointer.
When I moved from Windows to Ubuntu, I noticed that I no longer have that pretty shadow on my mouse pointer. Am I not worth it? :(
Please, add a shadow to the mouse pointer!

Transparent transcoding for portable music players

Automatically transcode music files to a format supported by my portable music player when I copy them to it. E.g. transcode flac and ogg files to mp3 when I add them to my ipod. This should happen whenever I copy files to it, either in rhythmbox or in nautilus.

Intelligent mouse with automatic movements

Sometimes the mouse arrow should really move on its own where it's needed. For example if a window pops up with a question the arrow should move automatically to that box.

OK, as far as I like Ubuntu, I don't like what it's doing to the command line. It's not a special graphical distro like Fedora or Mandriva is. It's Debian with a few thing slapped on top. I'm not saying that's bad, I'm just stating the truth. Ubuntu is Debian made friendly. And Debian uses the command line heavily. And I think things like compiling software should be in the help. It will really help newbies to become more technical.

At the moment, when you unmount a USB stick, CD/DVD, etc, nautilus switches to your home. That does not make sense, it would be better if the window would just be closed.

hidden backups

when you make a new file (text files, config files...) you also get a backup file. it clusters up the folder. its name should be preceded with a dot so that the folder hides it by default. the backup is still there but only noticeable when you need it.
