Include multiple locations in "virtual" folders
Written by iraiscoming223 the 26 May 09 at 13:24. Global category: Usability. New
Who tried out Window$ seven has already seen it implemented: the basic idea is including more than one location into one "virtual" folder.
For example, the "Music" folder may include music from:
- Music Library
- iTunes folder on Windows/Mac
- Songbird podcasts folder
- and so on...

The original files are still in the source folders, but the user can see them aggregated into a one "virtual" folder.
This thing should be implemented in Nautilus/Dolphin/[choose-your-favorite-file-manager] (also as a "plug-in", where possible), both for ease of use and for keeping the drive organization policy intact (I mean the way the folders are organized).

For a (tiny and useless) example, see this picture: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/340762/two_locations.png

Solution #1: Making the file manager loading two (or more) different folders at a time ...
Written by iraiscoming223 the 26 May 09 at 13:24.
Making the file manager loading two (or more) different folders at a time and in the same window (again, see the picture attached http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/340762/two_locations.png ).
This won't change files/folders organization and will let the user have his own files all in one place.

Solution #2: Using UnionFS/AUFS to "create" folders
Written by iraiscoming223 the 28 May 09 at 09:39.
Aufs - quoting from the site - is a stackable unification filesystem such as Unionfs, which unifies several directories and provides a merged single directory.
---------
Integrating it with a GUI (and with Nautilus/Dolphin/your-fav-file-manager) will solve the problem without hacking too much (IMHO).

UnionFS is basically the same as Aufs, but it is implemented in a completely different way, as written on Aufs site, sharing the same basic features.

Solution #3: Why can't we stick to 1 folder for 1 purpose?
Written by The_Great_Bunghole the 6 Mar 10 at 05:27.
Stick with the basics. Keep it the same. No sense in making things appear that aren't really there and then get confused when you try to find the folder within the "music" library that has important things in it...

Include (bundle) Artha (wordnet-based) offline dictionary by default
Written by twipley the 2 Jul 11 at 00:42. Related project: Ubuntu Software Center. Won't implement
there is this nice offline dictionary for Ubuntu, called "Artha." It is similar to WordWeb v5.52 for XP, and both are based on WordNet, developed by the Princeton university, and gave off as free (BSD) software. I thought, "hey, that would be nice to have as bundled software for future releases of Ubuntu." Well, I admit the "rare" and "common" word tags are ugly, but I have contacted the author for his or her input concerning their feeling about that. But, what do you think about that being bundled?;

Solution #1: Bundle the application by default with future releases of Ubuntu
Written by twipley the 2 Jul 11 at 00:42.
That way, one would be able to browse that nice dictionary without basic access to the Internet.

Compiz applied to sound
Written by semtido the 17 Dec 08 at 22:52. Related project: Compiz. New
I guess this one may be a problem to implement but anyway...

It would be great if compiz effects also interacted with sound, ie when rotatting the cube the sound of the music playing should seem to come from the side on which the music player was located. Also, the other effects could also support sound effects (like closing windows effects, maximizing, etc etc).

Make or include an app similar to Nero's InCD
Written by Primož Papič the 23 May 08 at 20:53. Global category: Others. New
Nero's InCD is one of the things that I really miss in Ubuntu.
I know that I could install it in Wine, but I don't think this is the best way. And it would be really good to have FLOS app that would do the same thing.
What does InCD do?
InCD formats CD-RW and DVD-RW in such a way that they can be used as they would be removable disks.
How is this different from Multisession? If I understand correctly multisession can be started only from K3B or Brasero, when InCD; in windows you could add new folders and files through expolrer; you could add files through Dolphin / Nautilus.
I know this is something that Ubuntu should develop, but I'm sure that something like that already exists and should be included.
=========
Yes InCD also has a bad side it can destroy CD/DVD-RW, this happened to me ages ago I think that technology advanced so much that this should not be any problem.

Canonical should become a Supporting Member of the KDE
Written by Eldmannen the 30 Mar 08 at 01:18. Global category: Others. New
Canonical uses KDE for Kubuntu.
They are already a member of GNOME Foundation.

So they should become a member of the KDE Foundation too.
