Allow install from broken CD/DVD.
Written by mmcmonster the 25 Mar 08 at 02:03. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
If the OS figures out that the installation CD is broken (ie: cannot read from a particular sector), it should give the option to download the parts that are unreadable from the internet (it will download the parts of a .iso that are needed, not the complete .iso) and continue the installation (or use of the live CD) seamlessly.

Of course, the CD has to have the kernel and some userland tools readable (such as ftp) and a usable connection to the internet.

If this is done correctly, the amount downloaded could be quite minimal, so long as the CD doesn't have many errors on it.

Another option would be to scan the CD and give an estimation of how much has to be downloaded before the process is begun.

Make file icons a little transparent while drag-n-dropping
Written by wladston the 24 Mar 08 at 22:57. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. Implemented
(this idea was finally implemented in Hardy using compiz fusion, so if you are a mod, please mark the idea as "Done")

When user drags a file or folder, make it a little bit transparent to help visualize where it's being dropped at.
