Add icons in the Update Manager, so that it shows what type of update it is, and how serious it is.

Sum of all votes of mine ideas
Written by Primož Papič the 8 May 08 at 20:48. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. Implemented
The title is a bit strange I couldn't remember any better title name...

It's totally egotrippin' idea, but still.
I would like to see the sum of all the votes of my ideas.
But, wait this could be used to have some kind of list of best brainstormers of day/week/month/year/all time...

If you have megalomaniac tendencies like me this the way to see your name on the top of the list.

Strange idea, but still it could prevent some really stupid posts (as is this) to be posted. Hey no one even the biggest troll doesn't want to see his name on the bottom of the list.

forward idea's to official developers
Written by nazgand the 9 May 08 at 01:53. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Many people on brainstorm sign up to request fixes for bugs they are frustrated about, when the object of their frustration is not developed by the ubuntu project.

I propose that when the admins sift through the mountains of ideas/bugs, all the ideas be sorted by developer, and the developer noted of a link to that section.

Example: Many people are frustrated with Gnome applets, like the Network Manager, but since they are using ubuntu, they post here. These should be forwarded to the gnome development team.

a package to make kde apps look as gnome apps (and viceversa)
Written by maxter the 5 May 08 at 09:17. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
in gnome is possible to make kde apps look as gnome apps installing some packages from ubuntu repositories (kcontrol and dependecies, languages for kde, polymer etc. etc), and some icons set and color schemes from gnome-look, and then configuring kcontrol.
same things is possible for qt applications that do not need a kde environment, installing also qt-config

it should be nice to have a package that can install all the above stuff and configure it.

same thing for windows application running under wine.

it should be a plus a simple configuration tool to modify some settings: hiding of the 'other' menu that the installation of kcontrol brings out, installing and configuring qt-config, system wide installation of personal icons set or color schemes etc. etc).

i'm not into kde, but i think the same thing shold be possible for gnome apps running in a kde environment.

system-wide configurator based on xml
Written by henk0775 the 3 May 08 at 13:59. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
This system doesn't need a migration from plain text to xml.
About all config files of about all programs have a simple scheme: a key followed by a value.
This system should read a file, parse line by line, find a match of the key in an xml file and apply the change.
It will be useful to bring a system in defaults, to create gui for every programs, to upgrade a system without change users' customizations.
Cases:

- Lucas wants to configure Xorg, he launches this configurator and with a gui he will be able to change all the keys.

- William doesn't want to upgrade his system, because a major change will destroy all his customizations. But packet mantainer uses this system and will be added only the new keys, without touch the other.

- Meredith made a disaster. The configurator read keys and value from a special xml file and system will be reverted in an usable condition.

Ask freely.

New Kubuntu theme that remind the Ubuntu philosophy
Written by tomtom_fr the 5 Mar 08 at 13:43. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The first release of Ubuntu (dear warty) was breaking the habits with its Human theme. And it was made on purpose and it's still on, and it helps us to remind that Ubuntu is different. That there is a philosophy behind it.

Kubuntu is blue
Deeply blue. Depressively blue. "#000 000 255"ly blue.
KDE4 breaks it, but it's due to KDE developpers.

Why not making a new theme for KDE4 that reflects the Ubuntu philosophy ?

Somethink more Human, humble, sober and professionnal.
Somethink that just fits with the philosophy of our community

Let the user be able to select a color of choice to use for his folders.

If I have many directories, then perhaps I would like to assign a different color for some of the folders.

Example, I want to assign Pink for my Porno directory, Blue for my collection of pictures of skies, etc.

Prefer simple and usable applications over huge and complex apps
Written by gmarketer the 3 May 08 at 04:21. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Please, don't include all-in-one monster applications in Ubuntu. Prefer more simple and usable applications.

There are should be one program to manage your mail, one program to manage your address book and one calendar organizer.

Don't include super-music-picture-video manager! One program for music, one for pictures and one for video.

Windows Vista new programs made with this idea in mind.
There are: calendar, mail program, picture viewer, audio & video player and so on. They spread functionality over range of programs. It's easy to use.

I'm also want that programs be flexible like Firefox, but they should be very easy at first usage. So audio player must play music, support other AUDIO formats and AUDIO filters, but that player must not have ability to send mail, and make web galleries from audio tracks.

Every program should work only in it's area.

Maybe we should write "Ubuntu good program design guide" and follow it.

Custom avatar editor
Written by henk0775 the 3 May 08 at 11:11. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Create an editor of avatar like some others you can find in 2.0 web application (e.g. yahoo®).
It should be integrated in DE and be chosen in preferences menu.
You should be able to choose background, face shape, colour of eyes, colour of hairs and so on.
Perfect for who doesn't have a web cam.

Ubuntu has a modified version of Firefox. Unfortunately there are a lot of extensions that are not working with Ubuntu's Firefox. If you want to use them you have to download the original Firefox version from mozilla.org. This shouldn't be so.
Some examples: Colorzilla, Tidy HTML Validator, Firebug 1.1, and many others.

This is NOT a Firefox version (firefox2/firefox3) compatibility problem.

Make Firefox more localised
Written by belovedmonster the 27 Apr 08 at 16:00. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When I install Firefox manually on my windows machine I get to download a UK version and it has the UK spelling installed by default, it has all the search engines set up for the UK such as ebay.co.uk instead of .com, all in all it is just set up for my needs in the UK.

When using Firefox on Ubuntu I am stuck with a generic version that assumes I want to spell in US English and buy books from the US version of Amazon.

Since I have to tell Ubuntu where I live during the installation process why can't this information be used download a Firefox appropriate to my region?

Replace Pdigin with Funpidgin

It seems like some developer-egos going bonker at the Pidgin project, so Pidgin has been forked and Funpidgin was born.

The main reason was the removal of the possibility to resize the input area in the conversation window.

Because there is already a related bug(209553) entered at Ubuntu I suggest replacing Pidgin with Funpidgin.

Speedup Installation
Written by DJBomberman the 24 Apr 08 at 09:07. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Maybe the installation can be speeded up, when you combine the installation with the download.
So when you download a "resolved" group of packages, it can start to install them, while the other packages going on with installation ...
