Beta test for longer than 1 month

One month is simply not long enough for the beta phase of Ubuntu's development cycle. With each new release Ubuntu seems to be accumulating more and more bugs. Even worse are the tons of regressions slipping through until after the final release, sometimes not getting fixed at all. More focus needs to be put on testing and stability (including universe/multiverse too).
Most users are terrified at the idea of running an alpha, so almost no one but developers and hardcore/bleeding-edge types are doing any real testing 5 out of the 6 months that each release is developed. I'd love to see 3 months of development (alpha) followed by 3 months of testing (beta+rc), but that's probably not realistic. So I propose 1 month of beta, followed by 1 month of release candidates; thus giving us 2 months of testing rather than one. The devs and other folks in charge can make the real decision of exactly how long, but 1 month (3 weeks of beta + 1 week rc) just isn't cutting it guys.

Create a torrent site with Ubuntu related torrents. So that people can submit own GPL GTK themes and wallpapers, comment on torrents etc. Also users would be able to submit .debs, which would decrease server load on default download page.

I don't know if this is possible but could there be a option to install multiple debs at one time.
You might be asking why?
Well imagine you were updating your comp to a new version of speed crunch using Update Manager. Then you wanted to install a new program but imagine this each deb file is Dependant on each over so you have to install them together.
In todays Ubuntu just having Update Manager and installing one piece of software does not happen!

Make great use of Ubuntus African origins in overall impression

My suggestion is that Ubuntu doesn't diverge from it's African origins trying to mimic Windows Vista or Mac OS X in look and style.
As a guy from IBM said "Don't copy Vista!" - we have to do better, much better.
Ok, so Ubuntu is "brown" and it's a hard color to work with - but it also represents earth/tierra - humanity - the African soil - protect the earth.
I hope that Ubuntu hang on to those core values and makes them shine through in the Ubuntu OS as well as throughout Canonical.
By emphasizing those values Ubuntu can create a real sharp edge. Vista/Mac OS X is NOTHING like that.
I would suggest you to run a Google image search for "African art" and you'll get tons of nice examples.
Does Ubuntu really stands for Humanity? Well - let it show - let it shine!

Rename top level directory names

Although this was copied from what is probably an april's fool joke, it directly made sense to me. The current directory structure is very confusing to new users and the one proposed below immediately makes sense to anyone:
/bin /system/executables
/boot /system/boot
/dev /system/devices
/etc /system/config
/lib /system/libraries
/home /users
/media /storage
/mnt /storage
/proc /system/processes
/root /users/Administrator
/sbin /system/executables/admin
/tmp /system/temporary
/usr /system/applications
(idea taken from http://blog.drinsama.de/erich/en/linux/debian/2008040101-renaming-directories.h tml)

I mean? there should be a normal ability to install Ubuntu without LiveCD e.g. from iso or even directory. Generally such ability exists now, but it should be easier and it will be great if there will be appropriate GUI.

Advertising of Ubuntu in Football World Cup 2010

In a enormous football stadium does space exist for the logo of Ubuntu?
If Canonical thinks seriously then Ubuntu, perhaps it acquires many more friends afterwards 2010.
All we can help the promotion of the idea of Ubuntu creating a video which will connect football's moments with the significance of Ubuntu.
I believe that is occasion to make known in the world the operation system that all we love, but also Linux more generally.

Joost - get Joost working on Ubuntu

Joost - Internet-based TV - only runs on Windows and Mac.
My idea is to work with Joost and come up with a Ubuntu Linux client that works better than Windows.
Joost is the only thing that Windows has that I want to run on my Ubuntu OS.

The Brainstorm statistics at the top of the page ATM says:
"The Ubuntu community has contributed 10942 ideas, 49795 comments, 1066521 votes"
If you post another idea or vote for any idea, the stats don't change, so I think they are updated just once a day or so.
It would be cool to have a "realtime" update

Create Ubuntu Field Support Teams

We should create Ubuntu Support Teams to provide on-site setup for small business and corporations wishing to use Ubuntu in their work environment, as well as on-site support for anybody. The people on the teams could be either volunteers or paid employees of Canonical. The on-site support should be free, and the on-site setup should cost something like $50 for up to five computers, $100 for up to 10 computers, etc. Maybe even give these teams their own offices? So that they can also provide over-the-phone support.

Hypothetical: Eye Tracking

Imagine being able navigate through Ubuntu, without hands or voice. Eye tracking can take laziness to a new level! Just look where you want the cursor to be, and raise your eyebrows to click (blinking doesn't work to well). It could also help people who are paralyzed and can't speak.
Unfortunately, eye tracking requires expensive equipment. It would be neat if would work with one or more cheap webcams. Then there could be four point calibration between eye gaze and the screen.
