Hire thousand of Chinese programmers

Canonical should hire a legion of tens of thousands of Chinese programmers.
It will be very cheap, and Chinese people are very intelligent and hard workers. Always top A grade students, perfect score on all tests.
In China people work 20 hours a day for only like $2 dollar a day.
We can employ them for only 6-9 hours a day with a great salary of $5-10 dollar per day.
It will be a great deal for them, because they can work less and earn more.
It will be great for us, because we can hire tens of thousand Chinese programmers, a whole legion of them and increase the development rate by a factor of a thousand.

Add "Sort by Date Created" option in Nautilus

In that other operating system, it was really convenient to be able to sort my "Downloads" folder by the date downloaded. This is not possible in Nautilus, and really bugs me. Now I have to go back to Firefox, look at the file name, and then go back to my "Downloads" folder to find the name of the file, rather than just having the newest download appear at the top of the window.
I'm pretty sure I saw this idea somewhere else, but I don't think it was here, so sorry if this is a duplicate.

Create a really good DVD Authoring Application

There is no good DVD Authoring software available for the GNOME Desktop. Something easy to use but still powerful. See Apple's iDVD as an good example.
http://www.apple.com/ilife/idvd/
The app should provide a good media integration of other GNOME applications like F-Spot for Photo selecting or Banshee/Rhythmbox for songs selections, etc.

Highly requested: Update the repositories more often

Won't implement
|
This has to be one of the most requested improvements, and for a good reason.
Whenever software is updated in the repository, the updates are pushed to all users automatically. For example, when the repository version of Firefox updated from 3.0 beta to 3.0 final, all users were able to use the Update Manager to easily update to 3.0 final. Unfortunately, the software in the repository is not updated very often. Most software is only updated in the repositories in 6 month intervals with new versions of Ubuntu.
If only the software in the repositories were updated more frequently, Ubuntu would have a killer feature - near-realtime updates to all software.
Other requests for this feature:

[Note to admins: I realize that this idea would probably be considered a duplicate as there are similar posts on Brainstorm. But the purpose of this idea is to aggregate all individual concerns regarding this issue so that it can be made clear how very important this issue is to Ubuntu users.]
Developer comments
Once an Ubuntu version is released, preventing it from breaking becomes far more important than updating the software. This is why the stable release update policy has very narrow exceptions - security issues, data loss, and going from development versions to final ones (eg firefox 3 beta to final or Wine 0.9.59 to 1.0.0).
Users who wish to trade a bit of regression-immunity for more current software can enable the backports repository. Perhaps more software could be backported faster, but this simply involves getting more developers on the backports team.

Not an idea

I come from using windowsXP, so I'm used to all drives being loaded and mounted on boot. I'm also used to serial-port, gameport, and usb being plug 'n' play.
I don't like taking the time to mount every drive I need, so shouldn't Ubuntu do this for you?

Decide what projects need resources

This is a generalisation of ideas 9770 and 8143 and other similar ideas.
What needs to be done to ensure speedy development overall is to sit down and decide where resources need to be allocation in order to achieve the best possible results. For example the author of idea 9770 is of the opinion that we (or more accurately Canonical) need to hire people to work specifically on 'X' and 'GNOME' while the author of idea 8143 thinks that GRUB2 is currently a more important achievement. While both of these are very valid ideas, I believe that the allocation of resources needs to be made as a community decision on the basis of need, and which projects are likely to give maximum return for minimum effort (and perhaps more importantly, money).

Make a template competition for OpenOffice.org
We should have a competition where our most skilled artists, the deviantART community and everybody can submit their templates for OpenOffice.org.
We could get some real professional-looking templates.
Then we have a voting or panel who picks out the best contributions for inclusion.
This will be fun, involve the community and get us some really great templates.

Speak to HP to get Ubuntu on new HP miniaturized laptop

"HP had unveiled their version of a miniaturized laptop for school kids. The tiny device boasts speeds up to 1.6 gigahertz. They haven't yet decided on a name, but 'netbooks' is one possibility. They will be used for surfing the Internet and doing other basic tasks like word processing. The company plans to have 50 million units available in the marketplace by 2011. Optical drives have been left out to prevent kids from playing 'unauthorized games.' Weighing less than 3 pounds with a tiny 8.9 inch screen, the machines start below $500 for a Linux-based model. Prices are expected to be higher for Windows Vista models."

Small businesses need double-entry native Linux (Ubuntu) bookkeeping applications such as QuickBooks from the Windows realm. Hopefully Canonical is partnering with startups to get this done. (At present the personal finance app's I've found just aren't strong enough or focused enough on business.)

Better dialup modem support

Unfortunately where I live (Brasil), dialup is still the only way for lots of people to access the internet. What happens when they try Ubuntu? I've seen many of them giving up because their modem doesn't work at all with it.
