Speak to HP to get Ubuntu on new HP miniaturized laptop
Written by Raval the 8 Apr 08 at 18:16. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
"HP had unveiled their version of a miniaturized laptop for school kids. The tiny device boasts speeds up to 1.6 gigahertz. They haven't yet decided on a name, but 'netbooks' is one possibility. They will be used for surfing the Internet and doing other basic tasks like word processing. The company plans to have 50 million units available in the marketplace by 2011. Optical drives have been left out to prevent kids from playing 'unauthorized games.' Weighing less than 3 pounds with a tiny 8.9 inch screen, the machines start below $500 for a Linux-based model. Prices are expected to be higher for Windows Vista models."

Ubuntu Chip In (think Google summer of code)
Written by Raval the 23 Apr 08 at 05:11. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Many post request new or improved features for programs that are available for use with Ubuntu. Ubuntu should organize programmers within the community who are willing to volunteer their time to help projects develop or improve features the Ubuntu community is asking for.

Think of it as our (modified) version of Google Summer of Code. As an example, say the community is asking for a web cam feature in Pidgin Ubuntu can ask for volunteers to help get the feature implemented then move on to the next third party feature request or bug fix.

Basically its Ubuntu saying to the community “hey, Ubuntu would benefit if this third party program had this bug fixed or new feature added. Please help by donating your programming skills or a few bucks”

A community mentoring program would also be great that created more programmers to assist in the future.

Default extract and create folder options for Archiving app
Written by Raval the 12 Jun 08 at 14:36. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I think it would be great if there was an OPTION in Ubuntu's archiving app that allowed users the ability to set a default folder for creating and extracting archives.

There are other ideas that request an option to select where to place or extract an archive but none for default folders setting.

Seperate hidden files from user created folders
Written by Raval the 2 Mar 08 at 17:11. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I hate when looking for a file or folder searching through a sea of hidden files mixed with the files I created.

Ubuntu should use a similar system to Windows My documents where under usrname you find the hidden files and the My Documents folder where a user places all his files and folders.
