Add something like software center in Kubuntu.
Written by janjiss the 30 Nov 09 at 22:03. Related project: KDE. New
It is a frustration for new user to install software in Kubuntu, so I think it would be good to add some thing like software center to Kubuntu.

Ark (files compressing and uncompressing program in Kubuntu) should be better
Written by pumukyjunior the 11 Jun 09 at 13:45. Related project: Kubuntu. Not an idea
Ark is the default program to compress or uncompress files in Kubuntu 9.04
The main two problems this programs has are:
1. It's difficult to compress or to uncompress files in kubuntu using Ark. To drag & drop files into doesn't work, and I have had to search in Google how to use the program, I shown that many people had the same problem.
2. When you try to uncompress a file compressed in rar, the program shows you a strange error, and doesn't notify that rar support is not installed.

Solution #1: Improve Ark program
Written by pumukyjunior the 11 Jun 09 at 13:45.
1. Support the "dragging & dropping" files into the window to compress files or directories.
2. In the second hand, it would be great that, in the case of rar support is not installed, it adviced you and suggested to install it, instead of showing you a strange error.

Solution #2: Save last used settings
Written by kamui the 23 Aug 09 at 18:20.
It happens quite often that multiple archives have to be processed with the same settings, and when these settings are different than the defaults, it's a pain to have to change it for every archive.
An option to save the last settings would therefore be welcome. Settings which are likely to be saved are
- the destination folder
- the option "keep directory structure"
- the option "extract into subfolder"
This behaviour would also apply to the "quick extract" button.

Kubuntu Informative Installer Slideshow
Written by MirzaD the 2 Oct 09 at 10:55. Related project: Kubuntu. New
It would be nice if Kubuntu installer would have similar informative Installer Slideshow like the one Ubuntu has
(see the http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzUwOQ ).

This would introduce new users to some KDE 4 applications, just like in Ubuntu's case with Gnome apps.

Solution #1: Use the same concept as in ubuntu
Written by MirzaD the 2 Oct 09 at 10:55.
Same concept could be used like with Ubuntu Installer Slideshow, only this one would show KDE applications like.

Personal information management -> Kontack
Photo management -> Digikam
Music -> Amarok
...

Phonon audio devices assigned to screens(external outputs)
Written by nusch the 12 Jun 09 at 09:59. Related project: Kubuntu. New
It would be nice if I could assign some particual sound device in Phonon - e.g Nvidia HDMI output to some particular desktop - .e.g that's one conected to hdmi graphic output, that's way I could drag&drop e.g kaffeine window to external screen and it will automatically switch sound output to TV audio system, while Amarok which is still on laptop built-in screen should use my intel sound device and play on built-in speakers. Naturally it should be configurable, not only constant assigned.

Interfacelift KDE wallpapers
Written by MirzaD the 4 Mar 09 at 17:38. Related project: KDE. New
In KDE 4.x new wallpapers can automatically be downloaded only from kde-look.org.

kde-look.org doesn't have a lot of high quality wallpapers, like http://interfacelift.com has.

Written by eduardoassis the 19 Mar 09 at 17:39.
Create a contest/festival or other event to incentive non tech artists to create desktop wallpapers, spreading their work and let the dirt work of create a repository put the art online and such for the canonical developers.
