Create a good, really good, media player

In windows, there is The KMPlayer, one of the best media players i ever used, not a single file that would play on any other player refused to play there.
In ubuntu I tried many media players, but not even one seemed at least good, sure there are good music players, but video players... thats a different story...
Seek bars make fun of me and make me despair, some files dont have sound, others crash... controling the volume is not very "easy"...
If a Media Player for linux would at least be as good as this program, then ubuntu would be as good as windows in this aspect.
If ubuntu cant even play media files properly, even having to use restricted codecs, it is hard to be widely adopted...

Remove duplicate tag

Please provide a way to remove the duplicate tag for an idea. Sometimes, ideas get erroneously marked as duplicates, as is the case with idea 5160 and 3596.
Or provide a new tag, related, so that dieas which are not duplicates but that are related to each other can be classified as such.
I think that the ideas mentioned above are related but not duplicates.

Make a new category for the 8.10 release since our beloved 8.04 releases in just three (3) short weeks and it isn't feasible to implement all these good ideas by the release deadline.

GIMP Help Files

By default Ubuntu doesn't install help files or help browser for help files for the program GIMP, which is used almost by every Ubuntu user. I think it should be.
Thanks very much.

Simple suggestion:
have something on the firefox start page
(file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html)
that says "Get involved in the community! Got an Idea? Join the Ubuntu Idea brainstorm and you may see your idea implemented!"

Anyone who refers to Windows when judging an idea should be shot

I'm tired of reading people who respond to suggestions, ideas and requests with:
* "Ubuntu is not Windows"
* "If you like Windows so much, go back there"
* "Why are you using Ubuntu if you like Windows?"
Ideas need to be judged on merit and value, not their origin.
I therefore suggest all those who reference Windows like this when dismissing ideas should be taken outside and shot. If there are legal issues with shooting them perhaps they could be dragged behind a horse for 20 minutes.

Updatable LiveCD for CD-RWs

It would be nice to have the LiveCD update itself (if it's burned to a CD-RW) from the repos, like Trinity Rescue Kit does. This is probably asking a whole lot, as LiveCDs are fairly complicated.
A few months after a release, you get updates (necessary, I know, but kind of annoying nonetheless) right after you reboot from the LiveCD into the freshly-installed system. It would be nice if these updates were applied directly to the LiveCD.
Another (less elegant) way to do this could be to have the LiveCD check for updates to packages it installs, and download and install those to the hard drive instead of the packages that are on the LiveCD.

Why if I choose Ubuntu I get incomplete OS?!

I've installed Ubuntu. It seems good, but when I wanted to connect my mobile phone I found drivers only for Windows and Mac on disc with drivers. When I wanted to connect my camera, I also found only drivers for Windows and Mac. I bought WiFi adapter but I found drivers only for windows!
If I want to install google desktop, I get simple version only with search, but windows and mac have complete version.
I suggest to make it so that user installing Ubuntu has the same ability like Windows and Mac users.

Randomise comment nicknames

Nicknames in posts and comments should be less human friendly. We should all be referred to as a number, not as a nickname
Another alternative is to just get people to refer to comment posters by post number, and link posts together somehow
My justification is that:
1) We should all be treated equal as a number. Numbers are easily forgotten, and makes it easy to reply to users, but makes us more anon
2) The use of nicknames promotes "powerusers", who people will unfairly vote any idea for because they had a few other ones.
3) I've seen eldmannen be unfairly targetted by someone with a pointless personal attack
4) I know I'm being unfairly targetted by someone too. My comments should be treated the same as everyone elses. Everyones comments should be treated with the same respect each.
5) Brainstorm should be 100% fair, everyone should have the same fighting chance with an idea! Just because they post what seems to be a notoriously dumb idea once, doesn't mean that people who read the idea should be able turned off, just because they remember the first one.
SPAM will be just as easy to catch, and admins could still be shown nicknames.
A system like this also helps stop continuing bitchiness amongst the same members (some people just like fighting).

Configured Firefox

I class my self as a power user and am a developer by profession but for people who want something that just works I think Ubuntu should ship firefox with a configuration that matches other O/S's.
For example, mapping the backspace key to the browser back button. Another instance is enabling context-menus for web 2.0 applications which show menus when you right click.
If I were an everyday user these niggles give Ubuntu an un-finished feel and they break the mental models of many users.

Apparently, because firefox is trademarked, we cannot remove customisations added by Mozilla (such as the default ebay search engine link, which is only there because they pay mozilla, but only promotes ebay's rubbishy Paypal, and demotes competition).
By changing its name, we can get around that (similar to iceweasal and Debian).
It will still be exactly the same firefox, only difference is the name, and flexibility in what code we can change in it.
