Add "Reset to Default" setting to Panels
Written by JhansonJr the 28 Jun 08 at 19:21. Related project: Gnome. New
I have installed Ubuntu on a number of friends' computers. I have also had an often complaint along the lines of "my sister clicked something and lost the 'buttons at the top.'"

It would be easy to show them how to click on an easy "reset to default" option on the right-click menu for the panel.

Gap between "simple user" and "power user" is wide
Written by JhansonJr the 4 Jul 10 at 09:52. Related project: Anjuta IDE. New
Many people that simply use Ubuntu differ greatly from those who are power users that know how to go in and re-code their programs to work for them. This gap is similar to online gaming, where "n00bs" are a huge gap from "l33t" players.

Many of the "Ubuntu n00bs" are willing to tinker, and have a starting desire to program, but don't want to spend thousands of dollars on College Courses for a simple hobby or buy hundreds of dollars worth of books that are written with the power-user already in mind.

Solution #1: Create a "Learn to Program" tutorial
Written by JhansonJr the 4 Jul 10 at 09:52.
This could be an application or simply a tutorial that would make programming (or coding, however you want to say it) as easy as Ubuntu makes Linux. I would recommend that it would start with learning C with small cli tutorials, then moving up to learning python and GUI programming.

This would get a lot of people in the common-but-interested user category into the help-develop-Ubuntu category. This would also help many people understand how their computer "works."

When the user installs a new internal hard drive, it should be automatically detected and mounted. Simply put.

GParted/Gnu Partition Editor needs to be faster when "scanning all drives"
Written by JhansonJr the 30 May 08 at 19:45. Global category: Hardware support. New
I have a server with 2TB of internal HDD space. When I want to edit a new HDD placed in my system, I have to wait a very long time for it to scan (seemingly) every square centimeter of my Hard Drives. I think that this should be a quick scan.

firefox 3 theme
Written by JhansonJr the 26 Mar 08 at 08:52. Global category: Internet & Networking. New
firefox 3 theme for linux sucks compared to mac os x and vista's. Mac OS X's "Proto" Theme makes our theme look very amateur. Maybe someone could create an "Ubuntu" Theme that looks good, unlike the one now.

#th best idea contributor should include more
Written by JhansonJr the 19 May 08 at 05:47. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. New
Instead of just calculating the number for best idea contributor, maybe change it to #th best contributor, including in the number of votes and comments the user has placed.

Make GNOME and KDE panels more customizeable
Written by JhansonJr the 18 Apr 08 at 23:39. Global category: Look and Feel. New
Create more configuration options for panels on GNOME and KDE. More like Xubuntu or Enlightenment. Enlightenment (E17) has highly customizable panels, which are extremely helpful for those of us who don't want our desktop to look like a Windows or OSX clone.

live update in Nautilus
Written by JhansonJr the 19 May 08 at 04:27. Global category: System. New
It would be nice to have nautilus automatically update the statistics shown whenever stuff changes.

For instance:
If you have a window open under /home/user/music/, and the bottom of the window says something like "80.6 GB Free," then you drag a couple folders to the trash, then empty the trash, the folder says "80.6 GB Free" until you go into another folder or click refresh. It would be nice to have that update as soon as the trash was emptied.

Add recommended Open-Source Podcasts to Rhythmbox
Written by JhansonJr the 25 May 08 at 03:45. Global category: Multimedia. New
When adding a podcast feed, it would be nice to have a list of recommended podcasts that are open-source or linux related. It would be great to not have to search (although it doesn't take very long) for each podcast feed for shows such as The Linux Link Tech Show, and Lotta Linux Links Linux User Podcast.

Just something small. Maybe a browser to choose from a list of podcasts as well as an address bar to input the address of a desired podcast.

GParted/Gnu Partition Editor - Better support for external drives
Written by JhansonJr the 30 May 08 at 19:39. Global category: Hardware support. New
as it currently stands, GParted is a great partition editor for internal drives, but when an external drive is edited, errors are very frequent.
