Lively Ubuntu homepage
Written by Jeisson the 18 Apr 08 at 17:43. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I like to visit the Ubuntu.com homepage frequently, in order to know the number of days to next release, to get some news about the project, to learn more about the system, but it seems a photograph.

I imagine there are lots of resources on Internet with that information, but they are not linked from Ubuntu homepage. For example, Ubuntu Brainstorm is a great idea, but it is not linked neither!

I think, homepage should be a lively commonplace to Ubuntu users and potential new users. It should have:

* News about the operating system and the project, new features just implemented, programmers required for..., etc., etc.
* A complex search engine for documentation only related to Ubuntu. It could search into the docs (help.ubuntu.com), forums, wikis, tutorials...
* Link to related and useful projects: Brainstorm, cdimage, Ubuntu Rescue Remix, getdeb.net, Forums... It could resemble labs.google.com
* Resources: backgrounds, screen-savers, useful programs, hotows...

I think, people could give more recommendations. Ubuntu is a great project and the web face of it should reflect that ;)

Maps showing related ideas in Brainstorm
Written by Jeisson the 18 Apr 08 at 18:30. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I don't know if somebody else feels the Brainstorm is losing impetus. Most of new ideas seems duplicates or they are are low graded contrary at the beginning. I imagine it will be more difficult for developers to try organizing them. We need now, good ideas to organize ideas.

Software could help to organize ideas. Concept maps let people to group related information [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concept_map]. Ideas could be represented with nodes and similarity with links. Two ideas with similarity of 1 (100%) are duplicates. Brainstorm users (visitors) could help to maintain similarity (reporting duplicates and voting).

Ideas could be shown in a graphical map. There are software that makes it already. GraphViz for example. So, the Ubuntu Brainstorm search could use a high level interface to show results, in the same fashion as KartOO does. Very similar ideas will group automatically and the development team could mark all of them as implemented, for example.

In other hand. I imagine this idea could be difficult to implement...

Sound effects in mixer - normalizer
Written by Jeisson the 9 Mar 08 at 18:03. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be useful and fantastic to apply effects to the sound for whole the system. So the Volume Control application would have a tab with a pool of effects (echo, chorus...), in the similar way the Sound Blaster Audigy's mixer has. I don't know if this feature is hardware dependant or it could be emulated by software.

I am really interested in a special effect: Volume Normalizer. So if one is working with headphones, one can trust no application will sound to much harder suddenly.
