Compiz Effect Preview

When you are activating a compiz effect, you actually don't know what will you get. So these effects (and perhaps tips for using them) can be previewed in a short flash movie so you will know what you are doing. Google Sketch Up already has something like this.

I just bought a new graphics card (8800 GT)and there seems to be problems with it being picked up automatically in ubuntu. It would be nice if that new X.org was finally implemented.

Make it possible to mark applications "Disable Compiz when running"

This is what I want:
I want to be able to mark applications "Not Compiz compatible" so that Compiz shuts down when I launch a game or some other 3D-heavy application. This is something I want to improve stability and performance for such applications.

All Ubuntu websites pass W3C specs

It's silly to be pushing open standards when we don't follow them for our own sites.
Ubuntu.com Failed: 54 Errors
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fubuntu.com&charset=%28detect+aut omatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
All Ubuntu websites should pass the W3C validation checks. (none appear to currently)
For reference:
Microsoft, Redhat, Sun, Novell, openSuse and Apple fail.
Debian, Fedora, Linux Mint, Gnome, KDE, Opera, Firefox and OpenOffice.org pass

Create and include a 'Speakers and sound' graphical configuration tool that would be able to configure the system soundcards and speaker settings (from simple stereo to surround 5.1, 7.1)

LiveUSB

cdroms are slow, don't allow to modify their content easily, they are weak and not as easy to carry as USB keys.
It would be great to provide Ubuntu as a liveUSB just as Mandriva does. We should be able to carry our distribution on any computer, manage our preferred settings (do I want binary drivers enabled ? what is my preferred resolution ?), etc.
The thing is not to make something transportable, but really a nomad system that could be used just the best way as it could on any computer.
Developer comments
I've changed the title from "LiveUSB instead of LiveCD" to just "LiveUSB". Simplifying the creation of USB versions is a good idea, but it doesn't need to replace CDs just yet.

There is a wide community of online artists capable of creating brilliant, unique artwork.
heading: Get your artwork on 10 million desktops
Ubuntu, the world's most popular Linux distribution, needs a new theme. The winner will appear in the default desktop of Ubuntu 8.10.
We're looking for original wallpapers, that match Ubuntu's color palette. You entry should also include a suggested combination of application, icon, and window themes. These can be existing themes, or your own original works - you only need to submit a wallpaper to win.
Work must be CC licensed, and be openable in either Inkscape or Gimp (rest of criteria continues)
Submit your works to DeviantArt and include the words [Ubuntu810].
Good luck!

More support for more wireless chipsets out of the box and "Windows style" ease of set up.
I have spent may a day trying to configure wireless cards on Ubuntu, often without much luck!
Please also deliver more support for what they are both wireless PCI cards and USB, as it is currently very low base of drivers for such devices

First of all: What is the difference between Preferences and Administration? For example: why do I see 'Encryption and Keyrings' in Preferences and 'Keyring Manager' in Administration? What is the difference between 'Default Printer' and 'Printing'? Why do I have to disable the Tracker under Sessions and not under Search and Indexing? And why are these menu's so large? I have 24 items in Preferences (they don't even fit on my screen!) and 18 items in Administration. To put all this stuff in a popup menu is bad interface design imho. Besides, the number of option should be much smaller. A few suggestions:
- Merge 'Screensaver', 'Screen Resolution' and 'Screens and Graphics'.
- Merge 'Network', 'Network Proxy' and 'Network Tools'.
- Merge 'Update Manager, Synaptic Package Manager, Software Sources'.
- Merge 'Encryption and Keyrings', 'Authorizations', 'Keyring Manager'.
Below are all settings I can visit via the System menu. This is just way too much.

Ubuntu needs to go green. Powertop, Lesswatts and other tools have finally hit the Linux scene to pave the way for better power management. It needs to be said, "if you want your battery to last longest, or have your energy bill be the lowest, you better use Ubuntu Linux."

At the moment it's possible to manage traditional wired and WiFi connections using Network Manager. To connect via a modem, a 3G/GPRS card, over bluetooth to a cell phone or via USB to another device requires that the user installs extra packages, and does a fair amount of configuration that isn't found in Network Manager.
A single unified tool should be provided which allows the user to connect to a network (or internet) via any supported method. It would also be useful to provide an extension to this tool to manage firewall rules and network connection sharing.

I would like to be able to login to Ubuntu using a smart card.
Smart cards includes a crypto-chip. It is used in secure computing such as ATM.
It would be great for government agencies, military and other places that need high security.
