Run firefox plugins in a separated environment
Written by lgb the 3 Mar 08 at 11:53. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It'd be really nice to run firefox plugins in separated environment, so in case of plugin crash it would not affect the whole browser. As far as I know konqueror in KDE does this and it's very usefull since flash is highly unstable ...

Songbird as default audio player
Written by kab the 3 Mar 08 at 07:37. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
A very good audio player with an easy plugin api, similar to Mozilla Firefox.

At the moment, the application is at version 0.4, but the developer improve it every day.

Mark Shuttleworth
Written by tomatz the 3 Mar 08 at 09:17. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Add a "send Mark Shuttleworth on another trip to outer space" button to the ubuntu desktop. All this button will then do is open a paypal page in mozilla so you can donate your hard earned cash to send marky on another trip to space. At least this could be included in universe!

How about wii have a faster ubuntu like windows xp,
XP operates very faster in comparation with ubuntu linux
but if ubuntu will be faster and more compatibel with more files like vidoes,arhives,images and more ubuntu will be
how to say a wow system because that little things.
And a more compatibele hardware + a faster system is the things a pc needs

Boot into screensaver
Written by kayhayen the 29 Feb 08 at 19:22. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
My use case is that I tend to turn on the computer and want it to be readily available when I come back a few minutes or some hours later. I also don't want my small kids to play with the mouse and create havoc to my system.

When the machine boots into kdm (or gdm, wouldn't make a difference), I still have to login to the desktop after turning the machine on.

That is because there is no way to boot into KDE (or Gnome, wouldn't make a difference) and have the screensaver to be started and lock immediately and in any case, even if there is user intervention.

That's a refinement of automatic login I think. It's an improvement of automatic login in security sense, in as so far, as the password will be needed again. The benefit will be that once I enter the password to the screen, the desktop session will already be fully loaded.

In my case with Digikam running with some thousands of photos and quite a few other programs, sesssion restore takes quite a while. Also, while kdm (or gdm) may look pretty, I even more like to run the slide slow screensaver with images of my family.

ubuntuforums.org should allow [IMG] tags in signatures
Written by verb3k the 29 Feb 08 at 21:05. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Although there is a nice feature in BrainStorm that allows you to promote the ideas you like through a little bar that links to them, our beloved forums do not allow for those bars to be included in the signature because they disable [IMG] tags, thus making those BB codes unusable.

Why Windows Users dont use Kubuntu/Linux
Written by Manuel the 29 Feb 08 at 21:58. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
So i asked me why so many Windows Users dont use Linux.

1: They cant use any Hardware they buy in stores
2: They dont have so many Software like under Windows
3: The Comercial Software is "sometimes" better
4: There exists no Software they need under Linux (CAD, Webdesign)
5: There are to many different Distrubutions
6: Software they buy in Shops doesnt work under Linux
7: The change from Windows to Kubuntu is very hard for them because of the control
Many simple thinks doesnt work under Kubuntu

for example:
There are no letter for the Hard Drives
The Windows key on the keyboard doesnt work
The Shortcuts are different
There is no Windows Installer

Maybe there Shoud be a small Tutorial with the first steps under Kubuntu for new Users and may there shoud be a list with alernative Software

Microsoft Office -> Open Office
Adobe Photoshop -> Gimp
Internet Explorer -> Firefox
and so on
