Remove Nvidia logo from startup when using restricted drivers
Written by Ape the 5 Apr 08 at 05:59. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There is that annoying Nvidia ad every time I boot X. That comes with the restricted drivers. It would be better without the Nvidia logo.

EDIT:
It can be manually disabled with

Option "NoLogo" "True"

in xorg.conf, but the logo should be disabled by default.

Separately monitor different CPUs in multiload applet
Written by Ape the 14 Sep 08 at 08:55. Category: Usability. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
You can monitor the CPU usage with the Gnome system monitor applet (multiload applet) on a panel. Now it just shows total CPU usage. So if you have multi core CPU and one core is 100% in use and the other is 0% used. It will show 50% as the total.

I'd like to see two (or more with have more cores) different bars for the separate cores. Then I could see if the core A is used 100% and B 0% or is it 50% and 50%.

Mouse and keyboard macros
Written by Ape the 11 Apr 08 at 18:49. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be nice to be able to record mouse or keyboard macros easily. It could then replicated the recorded action for X times with Y speed.

It would be also nice to be script macros with a simple scripting language. You could for example make a macro that presses the left mouse button ten times in a second.

Banshee 'Now Playing' tab should show information about the playing audio trac
Written by Ape the 5 Jul 08 at 17:49. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Banshee Music Player. New
There is that nice 'Now Playing' tab in Banshee 1.0.0, but it only works with videos. Banshee is mainly a music player so there should be something for audio, too.

It could show e.g.:
- track details
- visualization
- etc

EDIT: Sorry for the long title.. It seems that the last letter is missing, but I assume that it's not a problem.

It would be great to be able to copy paste messages from nethack-gnome. Yes, I know that this is what you all want!

New generation Nethack GUI
Written by Ape the 2 Oct 08 at 14:39. Category: Gaming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Nethack is one of the best games ever made! But many don't like the text based interface. There is also available graphical interfaces like: nethack-x11, nethack-qt and nethack-gnome. But the GUIs could be better..

Currently I think the best GUI is nethack-gnome. There is some problems with it:
- You can't see highscores
- You can't copy text from the message area

Also the new generation GUI could contain these features:
- It should look cool, current GUIs are ugly
- It should be fully customizable
- Include multiple tilesets and themes (also old school character based)
- Support for highscore / bone servers
- Sounds (there is support for sound triggers)
- GUI for save game recovery included

The same client should also work with different nethack mods like Slash'EM.

Custom value input in multiload panel applet
Written by Ape the 5 Apr 08 at 07:32. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
System monitor aka multiload is a very good gnome panel applet. It shows the near history of some system values like load, ram, swap and network usage.

I'd like to input some own values to it. I could for example make a script that gets a value from somewhere and then outputs it. Then multiload would show it on my panel.

Multiload should be able to handle custom data sources. It could ask file name and then read what it says every five seconds.

Gnome-panel applet that shows the contains of a text file
Written by Ape the 11 Apr 08 at 18:58. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be nice to have a gnome-panel applet that reads the contains of a specific text file or takes the output from an application and then prints it cleary as plain text in the panel. You could show up MOTD, monitoring software outputs etc. It should also be capable to update the text every X seconds / minutes.

Empty trash on log out
Written by Ape the 4 Oct 08 at 20:50. Category: Usability. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There should be an option to empty the trash on log out (and on shutdown and similar).

Now I must empty the trash manually. I know I could make a cron for auto deleting trashes, but that should be time based.

Remove Xubuntu as obsoleted
Written by Ape the 25 Apr 08 at 18:51. Category: System. Related to: Xubuntu. New
According to my tests Xubuntu is now slower than Ubuntu. In the newest version(gutsy and hardy) Gnome has reached the lightness of Xfce and it's now even faster. In the addition it's very hard to do things with Xubuntu.

No one should use Xubuntu anymore. It's old, it's not good. Xubuntu should be removed from the official Ubuntu variations as obsoleted.
