Remove icon of device from desktop even on unsafe removal
Written by bogdan_5844 the 10 Jun 08 at 07:56. Global category: Look and Feel. New
Right now if one removes a usb device without unmounting it the icon for it remains on the desktop, and we soon end with 7-8 icons of the same device in some cases(for example i have a usb hard drive with separate power, but it pretty much plugs itself out,so i ended up with 8 different "PackardBell" drives on my desktop, and knowing not what to chose)

Can't this be fixed? The icon on the desktop only dissapears if the device is unmounted.

Right click on minimize button should move window to right workspace
Written by grofaty the 29 Jan 09 at 13:25. Global category: Usability. New
When working with multiple programs there gets a lot of program window opened. In this case it would be nice to have some very simple solution to minimize window to tray or move window to right workspace.

On Windows there is one great tool "Tray Minimizer". When the minimize button is right clicked (not left clicked) program window gets minimized into system tray.

Look for sample:

Solution #4: Integrate AllTray program into Ubuntu
Written by grofaty the 18 Mar 09 at 18:21.
AllTray program can be installed using: sudo apt-get install alltray

It would be nice if this program could be integrated into multiple options set by user:
- right click on minimize
- left click on close
- etc

Track the amount of Ubuntu computers
Written by eyerouge the 7 Mar 08 at 16:38. Global category: Others. New
Since we love Ubuntu we also want to know how it fares in the world..

Hence we need some method to keep track of the number of computers that have Ubuntu installed on them, so that the number could be officially displayed at ubuntu.com or wherever.

Exactly how it should be done is up to the people that implements it. There are plenty of easy ways to do this that doesn't violate integrity, and even if this feature comes enabled as default in Ubuntu there should of course also be an option to turn it of if you somehow don't want to have your machine counted.

Network connectivity in China   forum
Written by Robert C the 29 Feb 08 at 07:52. Global category: Internet & Networking. New
In China there is a common program used to restrict network access called "Ruijie Supplicant." The Linux client provided by this company does not work and they are not interested in fixing it.

Without this client software Ubuntu simply can not be used on many campuses in China. The solution offered by campus technical support is to provide a pirated copy of windows. There simply is no way to connect to the network without this client and the client does not exist for Ubuntu.

Fade the cursor when inputting text instead of disappearing it
Written by Aphoxema the 8 Oct 08 at 06:32. Global category: Accessibility. New
It's good to have the cursor out of the way when putting in text sometimes, it's a good option to have so users don't have to frustratedly shove their mouse out of the way really quick.

I'm sure the human brain is quite capable of picking up on where the invisible cursor is when they move the mouse again, but I'm sure it's not necessary to completely disappear the cursor for text entry.

Instead, it could be made mostly transparent but still opaque enough to know where it is. Perhaps when the mouse is moved again, some effect could be used to make it's location more obvious, like a halo or brief flash.

This may provide a minor improvement in accessibility for some users without drastically effecting the great many users.

Hire the "Dream Team" to defend Hans Reiser in court
Written by Eldmannen the 18 Mar 08 at 02:17. Global category: Others. Won't implement
Hans Reiser is currently imprisoned, facing a murder trial. He was accused of the murder of his wife Nina Reiser, after she disappeared while cheating on him with Sean Sturgeon, a self-admitted serial killer.

Hire the "dream team" legal team, consisting of Alan Dershowitz, F. Lee Bailey, Robert Shapiro and Johnnie Cochran who defended O.J. Simpson in the murder case against his wife. O.J Simpson never spent a single day in prison.

This will allow Hans Reiser to continue the developement of the 'reiser4' file system. A revolutionary file system which is 10 to 15 times faster than its most serious competitor, the ext3 file system currently used in Ubuntu.

Silent update   forum

Provide the ability to update the system just by right-clicking on the update icon->silent update (or anything) so that no window appears and the full process runs in background. (only for official and authenticated packages of course)

To be able to open files that are in the trash
Written by lalejand the 1 Oct 08 at 21:27. Global category: Usability. Implemented
I would like to be able to open files that are in the trash.
Sometimes I want to save something from the trash but the name is not sufficient information, I often need to see what is in the file.
---------------
