Change the default "Send to Trash" keyboard shortcut
Written by Alex1200GS the 22 May 08 at 00:46. Global category: System. New
Most applications that offer a tabbed viewing experience use the Control+T keyboard shortcut to create a new tab (firefox is probably the most frequently used one). However there are occasions where the focus is on a desktop window with a legitimate file (or worse, set of files) selected; in these occasions, hitting Control+T sends the selected files to Trash, which is quite frustrating.

Granted, the files can be easily recovered from Trash and the keyboard shortcut can be changed by the user after installation, but still, this is frustrating.

I'd suggest changing the default "Send to Trash" shortcut to "Alt+T", or deactivate it completely (the good old Delete button can do the same trick just fine).

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #8926
Written by Alex1200GS the 22 May 08 at 00:46.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #8926 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #2: Use the 'delete' button instead
Written by hochhaltinger the 22 Apr 09 at 20:32.
Use the 'Delete' button instead for 'send to trash' (and maybe the 'Shift-Delete' key to remove an item completely) - and disable this function from the 'Cltl-T' to avoid occasional misuse.
