Integrate by default in firefox the most popular add-ons
Written by orzoweitop the 11 Apr 08 at 15:24. Category: Installation. Related to: Firefox. New
There are very add-ons for firefox, some of these are very popular.

For this reason, I think that why don´t include by default these add-ons?

Some of add-ons that I would like to come by default:
-Adblock plus
-Filter update for adblock plus
-NoScript
-VideoDownloadHelper
-PDF Download

It´s possible to create a survey where the people vote for their favourites add-ons that like to integrate by defult.

[firefox] Flashblock plugin by default
Written by Jarvis the 23 Mar 08 at 19:26. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The problem :
Flash plugin (or Gnash plugin) eats CPU when there are many Flash animations in a website.

My solution :
Install the Flashblock plugin by default in order to choose which Flash animation runs.

Flashblock plugin :

Firefox should allow regular expressions natively
Written by bert.ubuntu the 4 Jul 08 at 06:08. Category: Others. Related to: Firefox. New
There are lots of situations in which regular expressions are useful to search some text more than "word*".

Some advantages:
- Search pictures *.jpg
- Search audio *.[omw][apg][3gv]
- Find your name in a list (John Nobody = Jo.*dy)
- Multiselection on incremental search would be possible!
- If someone doesn't know R.E it would work the same way as before. So it makes nobody's life harder.

Furthermore, as Firefox updates, lots of addons simply stop working. So if it have this feature natively (which is simple do add, and not heavy to process) it won't be a problem as well.

Voicemail for Ekiga Softphone
Written by deadowl the 25 Jun 08 at 17:15. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Ekiga Softphone. New
I'd honestly just want the option of having voicemail through VoIP already on my computer rather than have to forward it to a WAN server or a local server that's incredibly difficult to configure.

It would be nice to have software that could be used as a primary voice communications tool between myself and other people that use the same software. I mean, really, if it's being installed by default, Ekiga really ought to come with this kind of feature.

A center of Welcoming is a necessary tool for new users. Here you perform the main tasks and configure your desktop soon after the installation standard.

It would be very good that the next Ubuntu has this facility. The Ubuntu is a success among new users and many of them do not know that the possibilities included in the center of welcome there.

I hope that my idea at all like. I have developed a new mockup seeking to improve understanding of my mind. Thanks for the tip brettalton.

Gnomify KDE
Written by uaneme the 6 Jun 08 at 17:54. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Make a GNOME skin for KDE

The look and feel of KDE is just *sigh*. Ok for those who like it, but KDE kept me away from the linux desktop for as long as it exists.. Just not my thing those BIG ICONS and HUGE CLOCK, grouped buttons on top of eachother, screenfilling menu's. KDE screems to me where GNOME is just there for me.

GNOME has more soul.

Or bring the good things of KDE to GNONE.

Written by thuban the 6 Jun 08 at 16:07. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
every files .gp3 or gp5 (and many other) don't have any icon. I think if whe open these files with tuxguitar (as an example), these files should have a tuxguitar icon then, or one who make then different to config files.

(really sorry for my poor english...)

Faster Synaptic search with tracker
Written by maltepalte the 6 Jun 08 at 17:56. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Use Tracker in Synaptic to search for packages.

One thing that boggles my mind is why the Synaptic search is so unbearably slow. At the same time, the desktop searcher Tracker delivers results as quickly as you would expect.

Synaptic has a finite, and rather small amount of records to search through, that changes rather infrequently (again, in search engine context). It seems like the perfect candidate for using Tracker instead.

With Tracker in Synaptic a search for any string would probably take about 0.05 seconds. That is down from approx 5-6 seconds that it currently typically takes.

So again, use Tracker in Synaptic to seriously speed up the package searches!

There should be an easy way to install .sh, .pl, .bin and .run files without using the terminal.
An example of this would be for .sh files when the user double clicks on them the terminal automatically pops up and executes "sudo sh .sh".
This would allow users to easily install these types of files and make Ubuntu easier for new users.

Connect to unsecure networks
Written by veltresnas the 6 Jun 08 at 03:25. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It is said that there should be no unsecure networks, but, they exist, they're all around, schools, job, etc!

so, why don´t let us connect to them?
I don´t like needing restart to windows to do it.

Leaving my acces point unsecure is an option, and the more options the OS has, the better it is.

Make an "Even simplier" shell
Written by hygo the 6 Jun 08 at 17:46. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Think about it, if you could quit some liberties and make the user experience simplier, a big menu with "install programs", "install plugins", "install recomended packages" (like restricted soft and flash) make all work for simply life and for the user who anly wants to chat, myspace and music. Obviusly, users can swicht to normal shell allways they want.

Apt should already start unpackaging before the end of the download
Written by ploum the 6 Jun 08 at 08:25. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Currently, when you upgrade, you loose a lot of time because all has to be installed then, only when it's finished, it will start the real upgrade.

1) As soon as apt has a bunch of related packages, it should upgrade them. It makes no sense to wait to download the full OpenOffice packages before installing the linux-kernel.

2) The download with apt should not be blocking. I should be able to apt-get upgrade --download-only a lot of packages and still be able to install a little software.

The Eldmannen application will allow all Ubuntu users to quickly and easily add ideas in Brainstorm just by double clicking on the heading of their favourite Sourceforge project. No more sitting and racking your own brain, just let Eldmannen do it for you.

Eldmannen

On windows, the backspace key goes to the previous page in your history but on Ubuntu it doesn't. It was because of a bug I believe but it would be a help.
