Make gnome support transparency (rgba)
Written by gmeier the 3 Jun 08 at 07:12. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be very nice to see all gnome core apps support transparency.
I am of course not talking about completely transparent windows, that can be done with compiz already, but something like this:
http://cimi.netsons.org/blog/index.php?s=aiming
At least the existing patches should be included in ubuntu by default: http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/rgba-support/list
This would be very easy, but offer a lot of new theming options.

bug
Written by dragonx the 28 Feb 08 at 17:30. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
In many cases, I can't configure my webcam or I have problems with the microphone. Now I can use my webcam but only with V4L2 and only 3 programas detect my webcam. It's a good idea can use my webcam in all programs as camorama.

Developer comments
That's pure driver issue in the first place. A big plus is to recommend UVC-based webcams to users, since it takes a lot of work off the shoulders of driver-developers. On the
integration-side proper support for v4l/v4l2 in webcam-related applications needs to be solidified. The ideal application to polish up is cheese of course.

Ubuntu Media Center
Written by Pc_Madness the 29 Feb 08 at 00:56. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Pleeeeeease make an Ubuntu Media Center. I'd love to move my server over to Ubuntu but there are no good Media Center for it, so I'm stuck on Windows. :(

Audio/Video/Pictures support would be the bare minimum needed, but TV Tuner support/Web Browser/RSS Reader/whatever else you guys want would be excellent as well.

I know theres already an Ubuntu MC project (which is dead I think?), but it was going off in more of a FrontRow direction, where as I was kinda hoping Ubuntu could implement a proper MC like MCE or MediaPortal.

Make the look and feel of AWN (Avant Window Navigator) better
Written by ubby the 2 May 08 at 10:21. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
1) It would be nice if there is a option to change the color of the AWN popups.
The colors that are used are basically derived from the Gtk+ theme that you're using.

2) When you open a window that was minimized from the AWN panel it would be nice if the window is not on the AWN panel anymore because the AWN panel will be to long if you have opened a lot of windows.
For example you can take a look at the dock from OS X.

Share photo's with F-spot
Written by frup the 26 Aug 08 at 08:50. Category: Graphics. Related to: F-Spot Photo Manager. New
F-spot is getting half decent. It's actually one of my favourite apps oddly enough but it has lots of room to improve.

I propose an easy way to share photo's/albums over a local area network for example. This could be done using something like bonjour similar to how frostwire and itunes can share music libraries over the network.

The reason I suggest this is that my brother and I often go places together and one of us will carry a video camera while the other one is snapping photos, instead of both of us having to set up and tag the same photos twice it would be nice for one of us to do it and then both open F-spot on our laptops and easily share, I have tons of photo's of him he would be interested in if only he could browse them.

When you have 6 people in your family all using Ubuntu at different locations this is a small feature that is very desirable.

Diagram of installed packages and dependencies
Written by Auzy the 5 Aug 08 at 00:50. Category: System. Related to: Synaptic package manager. New
I'd like Synaptic to be able to show me a diagram of all installed packages and their dependencies. This would give me a better idea of what branches of the synaptic package tree I can prune/uninstall, without problems to packages later in the chain.

make F-Spot photo manager a Picasa/iPhoto contender
Written by gabtrat the 5 Aug 08 at 21:25. Category: Graphics. Related to: F-Spot Photo Manager. New
I don't think I'm alone in that one of the first things I do on a fresh install of Ubuntu is remove F-spot & install Picasa. I don't what too, but I find that there is so much more that I can do with Picasa. I would love for F-spot to become the photo collection application of choice.

Here's a few things I would like to see:

*configure folders to watch for new pictures
*Organize pics in folders & tags
*easy UI integration to send to photo sharing websites, order prints, or email pictures
*automatic cleanup & sorting of photo collection
*tons of easy to use picture tweaks & photo effects
*easy editing of pics in the Gimp
*support for video

Better audio and video player
Written by ubuntu4fun the 22 Apr 08 at 07:59. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There are a lot of ideas that suggest to replace Rhythmbox and Totem with different players. It means that many users aren't fully satisfied with the default multimedia apps in GNOME.

Why don't merge the ideas and ask users what to improve in the default multimedia players for Ubuntu (or maybe replace them by other apps) ?

Maybe a comparison of the functions provided by every multimedia player (and its interface) could help to choose the best one for audio and video as well?

I suggest to create a comparison in a table and provide links to deb packages of every player considered so that users could easy test them and vote for the best one.

Every player should have its page where users could post comments about it (eg. I don't like Totem because it doesn't handle subtitles properly, this function works great in SMPlayer, though. I think Exaile has much better interface that Rhythmbox. etc.). It would make some order in this category of ideas on Brainstorm website, too.

I think it would be very helpful for the future Ubuntu releases.

Thank you.

Help and Feedback integrated on ubuntu's GUI.
Written by retj the 11 Jun 08 at 15:58. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New

My Idea is about improving the help support and take advantage of our huge community.

Ubuntu Help Center

I think that Ubuntu Help center could be a combination of ubuntu forums site, ubuntu brainstorm, launchpad and canonical support.

Here's an example:

Bob has some trouble with the system then he goes to Ubuntu Help Center, he's browsing the Help Index but still he doesn't find any solution. So he goes to ''Don't Find what you need? Go to Online Help'' Then instead of opening the web browser the application shows the following option:

- Go to Canonical Commercial Support
-This goes to Canonical web page.

- Ask the Community!
-If clicked, Help center offers:

-Search in Ubuntu forums for similar issues.( with a text field of course) He types his problem then some Ubuntu forums Posts are shown.

-Post your Problem ( Then he makes a post and a few days later a pop-up on the task bar says ''The user 'x' has answered your post! Click here to see his/her answer!'')
- Report A Bug:
-Shows a text Field that allows him to describe the problem and the information is sent to launchpad.

- You think something is missing? Help us to get better and post your Idea on Ubuntu Brainstorm!

Full-time paid upstream developers
Written by Eldmannen the 11 Jun 08 at 16:43. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Canonical should hire at least one full-time upstream developer for X.org and GNOME.

X Server 1.4.1 was delayed by 212 days. X is used by pretty much every distribution, and not only Linux also other operating systems, so it is a very important package. We need the bugs fixed, such as EDID. We need new features such as input hotness, XKB 2, Xi 2 and MPX, etc.

Zenwalk Linux have a Xorg developer, we should have at least one too.

GNOME is also one of the most important packages in Ubuntu, and we should have a developer for it too, so we can make Ubuntu more powerful, functional and friendly.

keep it simple and stable
Written by fanch the 11 Jun 08 at 20:33. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Ubuntu is based on Debian. What is debian ? It's one of the most stable Linux distributions.

If you want to attract people to Ubuntu, keep it simple and stable !
Hardy heron is nice, you can use compiz and other funny stuff out of the box but the system is less stable than before. There are many updates everyday and many things that people do not use.

We want computers to use them, not to have the latest geek stuff on it.
