Better release notes for Ubuntu 8.04
Written by Ubuwu the 24 Mar 08 at 14:59. Global category: Others. Implemented
Ubuntu’s goal is to be the most popular desktop OS for humans. But new versions of Ubuntu, like most Linux distros, are still marketed towards Linux geeks. They’re concerned with technology, trumpeting version numbers and drowning out the actual things you can do with their software.

We’re picking on Ubuntu specifically because it has higher goals than most distros - it’s Linux for human beings, not Linux for hackers. Unfortunately, the release announcements have forgotten what humans care primarily about: themselves.

This desktop tour, linked from the ubuntu.com frontpage, should be much more "Human-friendly"!

Redesign the Ubuntu ShipIt Sticker.
Written by loneowais the 29 Jul 08 at 12:42. Global category: Others. Won't implement
The included Sticker with the Ubuntu CD is too large & kind of huge.

Please ship good ubuntu stickers witn the cd

The stickers background should not be white.. It should be transparent so that it'll look more professional on a laptop body, matching with the body color.

Possible options
1> Powered by Ubuntu Logos
Like this: http://blog.mypapit.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/after.jpg
or
http://shabbir.hassanally.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/ubuntu-sticker2.p ng

2> Just Ubuntu LOGO
like this:

And remember.. background should be transparent

Solution #3: Re-think sticker design

* Downscale the stickers
* Use matte paper
* Use a more creamy background, pure white is aggressive

Solution #4: Alternative sticker design for laptop market
Written by tuxxy the 17 May 09 at 01:11.
An alternative sticker design is necessary and the user should be able to request either style sticker they require or Canonical could provide a number of each sticker design for the user. The new sticker design should be aimed at the laptop market so reduced size and with a badge style design, instead of the large white Ubuntu stickers currently supplied. Included below is a suggestion for the sticker design which is similar to the white System76, Inc. Ubuntu powered by stickers. These new stickers do not have to be white and could be transparent or metallic type. The second attachment illustrates the size of the suggested sticker.

Solution #5: Ship in scalable graphic format
Written by TuxHHG the 22 May 09 at 15:42.
If i need funny ubuntu stickers, i download them and scale with oo-draw to exactly dimensions. The result was printed to adhesive folies like data becker / canson. If the graphics are big enough, every downscale is very exact. Upscaling need some other graphic formats like svg oder ps.
My solution: Distribute big or scalable graphics.

Solution #6: Transparent stickers
Written by stoffel the 23 May 09 at 14:50.
Stickers should be transparent. In this way you can stick it to a black laptop, a white laptop, a grey laptop, and so forth.

Written by OgMacielq the 22 Sep 08 at 23:44. Global category: Usability. New
Every day (literally) hundreds of translation suggestions and/or modifications are generated in Rosetta. Due to some current limitations in Rosetta, it is fairly hard for translation teams members to keep up with the flood of information or even know about contributions awaiting for review/approval. My intent is to describe a mechanism by which translation teams can better administrate the contributions sent by Rosetta users, provide useful feedback and take a first step toward a better relationship with upstream projects.

Better Multilingual support and better CJK fonts
Written by kimchi314 the 29 Feb 08 at 00:08. Global category: Others. New
It's currently way too difficult to set up fonts and input editor for languages such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

Take a look at this complicated HOWTO:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Japanese_Input_and_Fonts_in_Ubuntu_7%2e10

Setting up SCIM / SKIM should be easy regardless of what language you log in with. Many people need to use multiple languages.

In Windows, all you need to do is open the Regional Settings and check the languages you want and possibly insert the original disc.

In addition, the fonts installed for CJK by default are horrible. Ubuntu should include more readable fonts out of the box.

I feel this is a very important issue and is blocking Ubuntu from being a serious option for CJK users.

Front end for MP3gain
Written by Thelasko the 13 Mar 08 at 15:37. Global category: Multimedia. New
MP3gain is a program that normalizes an MP3's volume based on it's RMS volume. This is wonderful for making sure you aren't blasted by your speakers when you listen to one song and then another, louder one. Right now it can only be used in command line. A GUI or integration with some multimedia player would be great. Integration with Serpentine would be fantastic.
