Windows 7 Style Window Docking   forum
Written by genericguy the 1 Nov 08 at 02:02. New
Just read this article on Windows 7: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081030-more-on-the-windows-7-ui-new-task bar-will-be-mandatory.html .
If you scroll down and watch the video, you can see how Window 'docking' will work.

Basically, if you drag an unmaximised window to the left or right of the screen, it fills half the screen on that side. If you go to the top, it maximises.

This would be really helpful to those with widescreen monitors and I wouldn't think it would be too hard to implement in Compiz.

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #15080
Written by genericguy the 1 Nov 08 at 02:02.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #15080 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #1: multi-touch gestures on tablet pc
Written by jayjayn the 26 Feb 09 at 18:00.
My idea is it would be great if there was some type of implementation for multi touch screen gestures such as two finger scrolling or two finger swipes to the left and right to activate switching between view ports like in compiz. as well as resizing images and rotating images using two fingers.

Solution #2: MPX
Written by Daniel Antony Demski the 2 Mar 09 at 03:51.
Multiple Pointer X should be integrated into Ubuntu along with reasonable behavior for interacting with things using multiple mice. That way people without touchscreens could even test out touchscreen behavior by using multiple mice at once.

Solution #3: Add a GUI for Multipe Pointer X
Written by niallabrown the 12 Apr 09 at 02:54.
Make a GUI to configure Multi Pointer X. One that allows you to assign a new cursor to a second USB mouse or activate multitouch for touch screens.

Implement 10/GUI Style Interface
Written by keyvez the 22 Oct 09 at 22:50. New
10GUI introduces a revolutionary new and extraordinarily simple idea for window management and human interfacing.

It has two parts, the Window Manager and the Multitouch Keyboard. The Window Manager part of it is achievable more easily than the Multitouch interface.

Here is a video of the demo: http://10gui.com/video/

Solution #1: Write a Compiz Plugin
Written by keyvez the 22 Oct 09 at 22:50.
1. Have all windows open full screen.
2. Every window is snapped to the window on the left.
3. Windows can be moved but they still remain full screen and just change order.
4. An extended expo plugin shows all windows and allows selection.
