[54] Give Sound Juicer the same encoding options as Sound Converter

Sound Juicer and Sound Converter are very similar apps, with one ripping CDs and the other converting sound files to other formats. Sound Converter gives users an easy way to choose, where they pick which format, then they get a nice guided way to choose the quality. However, Sound Juicer (the CD ripper) does not, and relies on profiles, which are very difficult to modify.

For example, the "CD quality, MP3" preset gives me 128kbps MP3s. Nowhere near CD quality, so I decided to try and change it. There's no easy GUI option; you have to change the command line parameters! All the help you are given is this:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=6 ! id3v2mux

I figured out you had to change the vbr-quality to around 2 to get what I wanted. Not intuitive at all. On the other hand, the SoundConverter interface was intuitive and easy.

I propose Sound Juicer switches to Sound Converter's format choosing layout.
Anyway, I would like the user to have the option for easy installation of libdvdcss3, as well as being informed of the current laws.

[73] Pulse audio graphical update

While i believe that pulse player is much more functional that vista's mixer it has also the con of not being graphically good.

- I believe that it would be nice if for every application in volume control you could see the sound bar. Similar to vista's sound bar. While this is not functional i believe that adds an aesthetic to the mixer.
- For every application running at least for the ones that have an icon there should be visible near the application title. These adds to a better aesthetic and its much more practical to search visual what you want by comparing the icons and not reading the application titles
- My last idea is more like a function request. Im watching films sometimes that have very bad quality sound and low volume. While im having everything maxed it still isnt enough(i have a laptop). It would be nice if desibels could go higher than 0.

Some vista's sound mixer screenshots i found on images.google.com:
http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/The-Windows-Vista-Volume-Mixer-3.png
http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/vista-volume-mixer.gif
http://www.shivaranjan.com/shivaupload/windowslivewriter/WindowsVistaHowtoControlVolumeApplicatio_1303E/vista_volume_mixer.jpg

Remember we dont have to make it exactly like vista. We can make it ubuntu style. This screenshots provide just some basic guidelines on what this graphical improvement might be.

I would like there to be a "special" section in an media player (I don't really care which one) which has some special support for audio books. The features that I am thinking of...

1) A separate section so that they have their own organization as well as not in the shuffle queue of music files.

2) Save the current play location for each of the files so you can return to your location in the book even after listening to something else.

3) Extending Ogg Vorbis media files so they support audio book specific meta-data. For example the time stamp location for each chapter in the book, Read by, etc)

4) Ripping into a single file, or perhaps treating a series of audio files as a single source.

Perhaps some of this applies to audiobooks as well.
