F-Spot should not touch files unless told so by user
Written by PiHalbe the 21 Sep 08 at 18:06. Category: Graphics. Related to: F-Spot Photo Manager. New
When I import my photos to F-Spot it always changes the time in the EXIF-information. Every single file is edited. F-Spot should not do this, since it is importing, not modifying, which I ordered. I did not find any way to prevent it from doing so. Not even setting the files read-only.

3D WallPaper for Compiz.
Written by xnibel the 29 Sep 08 at 19:50. Category: Graphics. Related to: Compiz. New

We have, now, 3D desktops. My idea is that Compiz have support for VRML format (or any 3D file format) to build 3d Wallpapers, So if I turn my cube, a 3D structure could turn with it.

Improving GIMP
Written by jipson the 29 Sep 08 at 16:18. Category: Graphics. Related to: GIMP Image Editor. New
GIMP is really a wonderful image manipulation program. But many of its features are, in fact, unnecessarily complicated. For example, one has to create a new layer before pasting a copied image. GIMP should be able to create a layer automatically for the image pasted and there is no need of letting it remain as a floating selection. And the anchor button, then, should be used as a tool for merging down the layers.
Logo and Text Layer in GIMP should be preserved as vector. And the installed plug-ins should be accessible from a single menu itself.Previews should be available to all the filters. Finally, GIMP should have a workspace of its own.

A new, great version of VLC (0.9.2) has been released.

It would be really great to make an exception to the feature freeze rule and let this new version of VLC ship with Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex.

I'm sure most Ubuntu users will thank you for it!

F-Spot import improvements
Written by PiHalbe the 21 Sep 08 at 18:11. Category: Graphics. Related to: F-Spot Photo Manager. New
The F-Spot import window is confusing. As soon as a folder is selected it will start importing without any confirmation from the user. Every now and then I accidentally select my hard drive from the list, which results in F-Spot scanning the entire hard-drive and copying photos, screenshots, comics and other stuff wildly.

Also, natural workflow is from top to bottom. So I would like to be able to select the folder first and then decide whether or not to copy the files, attach tags, etc.

So please, have a confirmation button to start importing.

Make a universal Tab System
Written by funflo512 the 21 Sep 08 at 09:59. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
That system would allow you to put tabs of different program into the same windows.
For example : You open Firefox, and you drag'n'drop a Pidgin tab into the Firefox window, then a Konqueror tab into that same window, etc.

Enable mouse in Compiz plugins.
Written by xnibel the 1 Oct 08 at 17:03. Category: Graphics. Related to: Compiz. New
There are a lot of useful compiz plugins, but many of them don't let the mouse works like use to do in a maximized window. I would like to close or to push a application button while I have a window with the expo effect (scaled, freewins or shelf) using.

Desktop wallpaper with repeating video
Written by cenora the 19 Sep 08 at 01:05. Category: Graphics. Related to: GNOME Do. New
It would be nice if you could select a repeating video and set it as your desktop backgound.

The movie can be just about anything, although "leaves in the wind" and non distracting ones are the best.

Bring the demoscene to Linux
Written by Eldmannen the 8 Sep 08 at 23:24. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The demoscene creates demos - non-interactive multimedia presentations consisting of a mix of audio and mindblowing visuals.
Often using the latest state-of-the-art methods, functions, concepts, ideas, and effects to produce mindblowing cool stuff.

These demos are developed by skilled geek programmers. Linux is the OS for the alpha-geek, we have a very high geek-to-luser ratio. We should have a much bigger presence on the demoscene.

We need full OpenGL 3.0 support.
We need to make sure that OpenGL 3.1 will bring in the latest of innovation and state-of-the-art graphics technologies.
We need a presence at SIGGRAPH.
We need good assemblers in the repository.
We need work closer with Tungsten Graphics, Khronos Group, SGI, Nvidia, AMD, Intel, Matrox, S3, etc.

include 16:9 resolutions in bulletproof-x wizard
Written by pyrates the 15 Sep 08 at 07:52. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. Won't implement
Currently when bulletproof-x is invoked, it only tries 4:3 resolutions and if I connect it to a hdtv, the only one there that is supported is 640x480. This doesn't give me enough room to reconfigure the xorg.conf file using nvidia's x configuration tool. I propose we include 1280x720, 1280x800, 1920x1080, and 1920x1200. This way when it's connected to a hdtv, it'll use one that is useful.

Developer comments
The vesa driver only supports 4:3 resolutions, and there's nothing that can be done about it..

restoring backups of xorg.conf and appropriate video card/monitor driver
Written by pyrates the 15 Sep 08 at 07:23. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
We should have the ability to restore backups of the xorg.conf and appropriate video card/monitor driver during the basic start up wizard when the current xorg.conf has invalid values. This is when the gui configuration wizard is shown. Currently I need to go into the terminal as root and copy an older xorg.conf over the current one, check what video card driver it uses and make sure that is there, then reboot. This is not user friendly.

I think there should be a simple way of restoring the configuration. If an end user accidentally set invalid values in the xorg.conf or because invalid values were set due to a bug in the application setting them, and just needed to restore back to a known good version easily.

The number of older configurations that can be stored up can be set to 5 for example or however many the end user wants to store. The end user can also delete old configurations if they so choose and backup the current configuration as well. This backup of the current configuration would also be done when restoring to an earlier version so that the user can go back to the one they switched from.

Great program is Google's Picasa and it's available on Linux. It would be great to add it by default to synaptic manager.

To change the rate of JPEG compression
To send the pictures to Thunderbird or Evolution attachment
To copy images to a directory of your choice
To create a ZIP archive containing photos
To keep the configuration settings"

http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=137609

Task bar with no rectangular shape.
Written by xnibel the 12 Sep 08 at 02:37. Category: Graphics. Related to: Gnome. New
We could get this effect allowing to put a gif (or another kind of image file format wich support transparency) as task-bar backgrown. If the user push click in the transparet area then the task-bar doesn't activate and if the user push click in the area with color then the task bar catch the click.

This is an optional feature for users with graphics accelerator.

compiz grey screen sometimes isnt erased properly
Written by carpii the 22 Sep 08 at 21:12. Category: Graphics. Related to: Compiz. New
Im using Gnome and Compiz.

Sometimes when the grey modal screen appears in compiz, to show an important dialog, when the dialog is dismissed, the grey background isnt erased fully.

Theres usually bits left in the top left, in the task bar and also quite often large areas on the desktop.

An example of the grey screen I mean, is when you run synaptic, and you are prompted for the password.

Im also using nvidia proprietary drivers, though Im unsure whether they are the cause.

support font (typeface) suitcase formats
Written by nitrofurano the 11 Sep 08 at 16:42. Category: Graphics. Related to: ubuntu.com. New
One useful feature from MacOS-Classic (since version 6 or 7, from early 90's or late 80's) is the typeface files being able to be organized into suitcase documents, which is no much more than a binary file with typefaces inside, maybe no much different of how could look a .tar file of .ttf files inside.

This would help Linux users (specially the graphic desingers ones) on having typefaces better organized.

MacOS-X also still uses suitcase typeface formats, and Linux could accept this format as well, or similar ones.
