Have moderators who filter out brainstorms before people can vote on them   forum
Written by aysiu the 7 Jul 08 at 19:46. Category: Website structure. Implemented
Right now there are too many brainstorms to be sifted through and made sense of, spreading the votes of any reasonable person too thin.

Brainstorm should select a group of moderators to filter out ideas that are not feasible, not ideas, bug reports, or poorly worded before they are able to be voted on by the general registered user populace.

It will make Brainstorm less cluttered and allow people to decide on a few well-crafted and feasible brainstorms instead of having to make sense of the mess of 10s of thousands of brainstorms that have no hope of ever coming to fruition ("Include all proprietary codecs by default," "Make Ubuntu better," "Fix this upstream Gnome problem").

This is finally in place, after the January 2009 upgrade!

Brainstorm: Code idea text to be black, not default
Written by Warbo the 26 Apr 08 at 13:29. Implemented
On the Brainstorm site a lot of text is set to the default system colour, but the backgrounds are coded to be light colours like white. For people who have light text by default (eg. white-on-black themes) this can make the site unreadable without selecting all of the text.

Here is an example of what Brainstorm looks like using my theme http://www.freewebs.com/chriswarbo/Temporary/Pictures/brainstorm%2Dunreadable.j pg [take away the space near the end,Brainstorm is mutilating my URLs :( ] (but this theme is has dark text compared to others)

Please fix this by specifically coding the site to use black text, rather than assuming everyone uses black as default.

Thanks :)

Close duplicate ideas
Written by James the 24 Dec 08 at 18:17. Implemented
When a moderator marks idea as a duplicate, the duplicate one should be closed.
Or, it could be done in a way that voting on the duplicate increments the votes for the original idea.

Why is this needed?
Because presently, a duplicate shows a "duplicate" in rd written in small fonts. Sometimes users do not notice that and keep voting on the duplicate itself.

Automatically fix users/spammers who post 20 ideas in 1 minute
Written by Auzy the 7 Mar 08 at 01:29. Implemented
We need a mechanism in place to ensure there is no spam. Captcha's is one as described in another idea.

But they can be defeated. When a user posts too many ideas in a minute (ie, 15 or so, which is humanly impossible), their ideas should probably still be submitted but hidden to everyone but the mods, until the mods mark the user as not a spammer. This way people who queue up the ideas and post them all simultaneously for fun don't get banned, and spammers don't even realise that they are blacklisted.

Better this then waking up to 300 pages of "Free cam action at wild animals . com"

Don't install gnome-games by default
Written by spydon the 12 Aug 08 at 19:25. Implemented
There are lots of small games in the gnome-games package and there are simply too many. It looks kind of bloated with that many games installed by default. So I suggest that you just have 2 or 3 games instead of the whole package.

Add entry 'Nautilus' in the list 'This idea is related to:' while submit. i
Written by avguleas the 1 Jul 08 at 00:04. Implemented
There is no category 'Nautilus' in the list of 'This idea is related to:' while submitting your new idea in Ubuntu Brainstorm.

Only 'Nautilus CD/DVD creator' exists, but it is true that we would like far more features from Nautilus itself.

Please, add a separate choice.

"Possible duplicates" should be sorted by relevence, not votes
Written by Auzy the 18 Apr 08 at 09:59. Implemented
The possible duplicates function for idea submission should not be sorted by votes, but by relevance of the keywords.

Why? Because the most relevent, is sometimes -300 votes, which wouldn't even show on the list currently (because there are dozens of ideas with more votes).

Don't allow an earlier idea to be a dupe of a later one
Written by nelson.blaha the 21 Oct 08 at 16:40. Implemented
Unless one possesses the ability to see into the future, an original idea cannot be a duplicate of a later idea. Idea 9313, which was submitted on 31 May, is labeled as a duplicate of 7 Jun's 9627.

"duplicate" idea:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/9313/

"original" idea:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/9627/

They're really not the same idea anyway. A moderator should fix that.

Brainstorm: show the "yes" or "no" votes
Written by fraiddo the 24 Apr 08 at 17:44. Implemented
Hello,

I think it is interesting to also show votes "yes" and "no" to see how much an idea was considered interesting or not.

Only know the difference between the "yes" and "no" doesn't reflect all of a vote in my opinion.

bye
