This way it would be easier to keep track of podcasts. Especially if you are subscribed to 10 or more podcasts it's almost impossible to know which one you have listened to already. Sure you can delete all the podcasts you have listened to right away, but one might want to keep oder podcasts.
PS: A full iPod integration would be helping as well, means that Banshee recognizes that you have listened to a podcast on your iPod and/or the number of times you have listened to a song, etc.
I have my entire music library stored on an external drive. However, in order to actually use it in a music player I need to either permanently mount the drive or run smbmount before opening my player - ugh!
*Pls excuse my english. But I'm not a native speaker.
A complete database managing Media Files.
Used to manage Video, Music, Images.
Every Media Software should be able to build on top of it.
Implemented in the Gnome Virtual Filesystem if possible.
But still be able to go to the specific Folders. And work normally with the media and Music Files.
The Libary should provide the metatag information, and Metatags should be written with the library.
Nautilus should be able to show a nice overview.
Filepath something like media:/// to come to the overview Page.
Data should be located in the Home Folder.
Music, Video, Pictures Folder
The Library should manage the Folderstructure and index the files. It should be possible to add new Files by copying or by dragging into the media:/// place or by dragging it into e.g. /home/user/Music.
The system should be extendable with plugins for new features like loading lyrics and saving them as id3 tag or something else.
If possible it should handle Media Players.
Possible additional features:
* Ipod Support (as Plugin)
Just Drag and Drop Media Files on the IPod and they will be indexed and added to the database.
See the Musik of the Ipod.
Some podcast downloads require a password. For example if you have signed up as a member and get commercial free membership podcasts.
Rhythmbox can do it but Banshee don't, that's why I still have to use Rhythmbox, otherwise I prefer Banshee.
Thanks.
I have several different computers that I work on (as I assume many people do): a desktop at work, a workstation at home, a multimedia machine at home and a laptop. I listen to music on all of these machines. I also have a fairly extensive music collection that encompasses some 20,000+ songs. I have made a conscious effort to rate all of the songs in my collection as this enables me to use the 'Smart Playlist' feature that Banshee offers and allows for 'More Intelligent' shuffling of my music. Unfortunately, as I listen to, and rate songs at each machine I have no reasonable way of 'synching' my ratings and playlists from one machine to another.
At the moment I simply copy the banshee.db file from ~/.config/banshee from one computer to another. This works well for the two machines at home, but becomes problematic for the others when objects within the library are modified. If I make changes to any of the files in my library I then have to rsync the modified library to all of the other machines.
Also, some of my computers are a bit limited in their resources (e.g. my laptop does not have a large enough harddrive to hold my entire music library) and consequently I am forced to have only a subset of my library available for use on these machines. It would be nice to have a separate database for these machines that defines a subset of my 'master' library as being available, but still 'syncs' with the 'master library'.

New
I would like to see Canonical support an addon for mozilla offsprings Songbird and Nightingale. I ask this of Canonical because it seems there is insufficient support for cross-platform browsers that a crucial to having a successful financial model. Many users profoundly disagree with the (perhaps not so visually appealing) GUI (as is) of both Rhythmbox and Banshee.
I subscribe to a a few different podcasts, and it's a pain trying to keep all my systems up to date with which ones are new, and which podcasts should be subscribed to.
Banshee has a plugin can import the library from Amarok and Rhythmbox, but does not take into account the new users coming from Windows. Many use Winamp and there is no tool that can easily import your collection without losing data as score or number of reproductions.
