Mark unlistened and uncopied podcast as "New" in Banshee
Written by xVx the 11 Aug 08 at 16:13. New
This way it would be easier to keep track of podcasts. Especially if you are subscribed to 10 or more podcasts it's almost impossible to know which one you have listened to already. Sure you can delete all the podcasts you have listened to right away, but one might want to keep oder podcasts.

PS: A full iPod integration would be helping as well, means that Banshee recognizes that you have listened to a podcast on your iPod and/or the number of times you have listened to a song, etc.

background smbmount
Written by drdanielfc the 7 Sep 10 at 22:08. New
I have my entire music library stored on an external drive. However, in order to actually use it in a music player I need to either permanently mount the drive or run smbmount before opening my player - ugh!

Solution #1: Gui for smbmount
Written by drdanielfc the 7 Sep 10 at 22:08.
There should be a gui for smbmount (including an easy way to access it from nautilus) that allows you to set up a network share to automount itself WHEN ACCESSED, so if you are not online at time of login then you can still use it after connecting. The file should be mounted in a folder such as /network/COMPUTERNAME/DRIVENAME

Media Database - Concrete Idea, connect
Written by gyger the 14 Jul 08 at 16:25. New
*Pls excuse my english. But I'm not a native speaker.

A complete database managing Media Files.
Used to manage Video, Music, Images.
Every Media Software should be able to build on top of it.
Implemented in the Gnome Virtual Filesystem if possible.
But still be able to go to the specific Folders. And work normally with the media and Music Files.
The Libary should provide the metatag information, and Metatags should be written with the library.
Nautilus should be able to show a nice overview.

Filepath something like media:/// to come to the overview Page.
Data should be located in the Home Folder.

Music, Video, Pictures Folder

The Library should manage the Folderstructure and index the files. It should be possible to add new Files by copying or by dragging into the media:/// place or by dragging it into e.g. /home/user/Music.

The system should be extendable with plugins for new features like loading lyrics and saving them as id3 tag or something else.

If possible it should handle Media Players.

Possible additional features:

* Ipod Support (as Plugin)
Just Drag and Drop Media Files on the IPod and they will be indexed and added to the database.
See the Musik of the Ipod.

Solution #2: Use a tagged filesystem
Written by uaneme the 27 Nov 10 at 06:22.
Something like the gmail labels but then far more extended

Then the user can define what counts.

Artist tag
title tag
tempo tag
style tag (Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rock, Metal)
year tag
key tag (for the musical key the track was played in, good mood, bad mood, neutal, sunny day, rainy day)
relation tag (so you can link a track to another track)
rating tag (the higer you rate it then the higher it shows up when you do a search)
instrumental tag (sometimes you like to listen to music without someone singing, or the opposite)

etc etc etc

Password protected podcasts in Banshee
Written by xVx the 11 Aug 08 at 16:10. New
Some podcast downloads require a password. For example if you have signed up as a member and get commercial free membership podcasts.
Rhythmbox can do it but Banshee don't, that's why I still have to use Rhythmbox, otherwise I prefer Banshee.
Thanks.

Centralized and Mergable Music Database
Written by sharkllama the 20 Jan 10 at 03:17. New
I have several different computers that I work on (as I assume many people do): a desktop at work, a workstation at home, a multimedia machine at home and a laptop. I listen to music on all of these machines. I also have a fairly extensive music collection that encompasses some 20,000+ songs. I have made a conscious effort to rate all of the songs in my collection as this enables me to use the 'Smart Playlist' feature that Banshee offers and allows for 'More Intelligent' shuffling of my music. Unfortunately, as I listen to, and rate songs at each machine I have no reasonable way of 'synching' my ratings and playlists from one machine to another.

At the moment I simply copy the banshee.db file from ~/.config/banshee from one computer to another. This works well for the two machines at home, but becomes problematic for the others when objects within the library are modified. If I make changes to any of the files in my library I then have to rsync the modified library to all of the other machines.

Also, some of my computers are a bit limited in their resources (e.g. my laptop does not have a large enough harddrive to hold my entire music library) and consequently I am forced to have only a subset of my library available for use on these machines. It would be nice to have a separate database for these machines that defines a subset of my 'master' library as being available, but still 'syncs' with the 'master library'.

Solution #1: Putting the Database in the Cloud ...
Written by sharkllama the 20 Jan 10 at 03:17.
So, what I envision, is a utility that would plug into banshee (or rhythmbox, amarok, ) and allow for some sort of multi-machine music database management. The main purpose of this utility should be:

- Allow multiple machines to edit ID3 Tags, Song Ratings and Playlists for a given library and synchronize these parameters across a network.

Additionally, it would be nice to:

- Define different libraries for different machines. Some intersection of the contents of these libraries can then be updated independently of each other and the libraries should be mergable to form a 'Master Library'. An example of this would be:
Store the complete 'Master Library' on my home
workstation.
Create an iPod library that syncs to my iPod
Create a Laptop library that syncs to my laptop.

As my iPod and laptop are the most resource limited media players I have I'll want to store only my favorite music in these libraries. There will probably be a lot of common songs between the iPod and laptop libraries but they are not necessarily identical. I could then rate songs on each of these machines and have those ratings migrate back to my 'Master Library' or have recently updated ratings migrate from my 'Master Library' back to the iPod and Laptop databases.

Solution #2: Software/Hardware Sync
Written by thecarpy the 6 Feb 10 at 22:29.
I want ipod sync functionality for pc's and macs on the network.

Rhythmbox/banshee/... has media server option with optional password and a sync with server option.

Master and slaves have names, I can associate playlists with one or more slaves and the slaves with a master. I should have an optiohn to sync media only or media and metadata.

From the clients, when I am on the network, I can sync songs and metadata with the central server, songs can go both ways.

When I buy a song online, I wanna sync it. Could also support some smartphones (android anyone?)...

Let Canonical support addons for Songbird/Nightingale for the UbuntuOne Music
Written by futurenow123 the 14 Apr 10 at 21:32. New
I would like to see Canonical support an addon for mozilla offsprings Songbird and Nightingale. I ask this of Canonical because it seems there is insufficient support for cross-platform browsers that a crucial to having a successful financial model. Many users profoundly disagree with the (perhaps not so visually appealing) GUI (as is) of both Rhythmbox and Banshee.

It's a pain keeping podcasts synchronised across multiple systems.

I subscribe to a a few different podcasts, and it's a pain trying to keep all my systems up to date with which ones are new, and which podcasts should be subscribed to.

Solution #1: Sync through Ubuntu One
Written by MunkyJunky the 26 Apr 10 at 11:29.
An ideal solution would be to sync the status of podcasts through Ubuntu One. This would basically be a list of currently subscribed podcasts, and which the current status of each episode.

One thing to mention is that Ubuntu One should _not_ sync the podcast file itself - this would be impractical with a large number of podcasts/episodes.

As an example, imagine two systems, both synced to the same Ubuntu One account. I log into system #1, subscribe to a podcast through Banshee, and listen to the first 2 episodes of the 4 available. Then, I move to system #2, open Banshee, and it starts downloading episodes 3 and 4, having marked episodes 1 and 2 as old. I listen to episode 3, then unsubscribe from the podcast. Back on system #1, the podcast is removed from Banshee automatically next time I log on.

Winamp is one of the most popular music players.
Written by luzbelito92 the 8 Feb 10 at 12:47. New
Banshee has a plugin can import the library from Amarok and Rhythmbox, but does not take into account the new users coming from Windows. Many use Winamp and there is no tool that can easily import your collection without losing data as score or number of reproductions.

Solution #1: Incluir un plugin que pueda importar la librería.
Written by luzbelito92 the 8 Feb 10 at 12:47.
Data from the library are (from Vista) on:
"C: \ Users \ nombre_de_usuario \ AppData \ Roaming \ Winamp \ Plugins \ ml"

The data are in "main.dat" and "main.idx", one need only know how to interpret them.
