Increase Sound Menu functionality: song progress slider
Written by Lionthinker the 29 Jan 12 at 18:44. New
The sound menu at the top right only has volume control.

I listen to a lot of podcasts and need to repeat sections.
Also it would be nice to repeat parts of songs without having to open the music player.

In the Sound Menu bar below or above the volume scroller, place a progress slider.

Simple as that.

Solution #2: One-thing-to-do mode for some popular tasks
Written by DdOo the 19 Mar 11 at 15:43.
I don't know if it's technicaly possible, but One-thing-to-do mode for some popular tasks would be very useful.

For instance :

* music-mode
* film-mode
* internet-mode
* one-game-mode
* …

Solution #3: Ubuntu should be as energy efficient as possible by default
Written by Chronos the 10 Apr 11 at 15:14.
There is no need to have music mode, the kernel should keep everything as energy efficient as possible, at every time.

Volume Still Controlled By One Master Level
Written by ginjaninja405 the 7 Mar 11 at 01:24. New
Volume, even with it's recent advances, is still System-wide and when changed, it affects all applications. This does not give freedom to mute Music quickly to watch an online video, or turn down any annoyingly distracting sound effects that may come from an instant messenger.

Solution #1: Allow Volume Changes At Application Level
Written by ginjaninja405 the 7 Mar 11 at 01:24.
Use a backend like PulseAudio and integrate Volume sliders listing vertically into the Sound Menu. This will give users much more control. Only display applications that are creating sound, and link the sliders on the Sound Menu with any volume sliders in the application. By default, have them hidden, but create the capability to click a drop-down box to reveal them.

Sound Menu should add more functionality with Banshee/RhythmBox
Written by mystro256 the 6 Mar 11 at 22:17. New
Since the interface with Banshee/Rhythmbox have been put completely in the sound menu for Natty/Maverick, it lacks functionality that was in the original notification icon, such as seeking through a song and closing the player without using "file > quit"

Solution #1: Add the ability to seek and close
Written by mystro256 the 6 Mar 11 at 22:17.
The sound menu should add the ability to seek or fast-forward/rewind, such as the hover-over-notification-icon function banshee had (I'm not sure if Rhythmbox had it because I never used it), along with an option to close the player (such as an X beside the name of the player or text option below the album art)

Solution #2: Just a close option
Written by mystro256 the 7 Mar 11 at 20:40.
option to close the player, such as an X beside the name of the player or text option below the album art. One may want to close the media player so it doesn't take up resources, but would find it much more convenient to just have the close in the sound menu.

Solution #3: Add close button and song progress slider
Written by CorvusS the 29 Apr 11 at 18:14.
In addition to a close option described in solution #2, sound menu should have song progress slider, so one can play his favourite part of song again without having to open player.

Solution #4: Add sound menu customisation options to Banshee preferences

Let user decide what he wants in Sound menu. Add options to show/hide album cover, song progress slider etc. to Banshee preferences.

There should be an indicator for new Podcast episodes
Written by Toxicbits the 18 Sep 10 at 20:44. New
After downloading some new episodes of a Podcast I often don't know which ones I've already listened to. It would be useful to have one column which indicates whether an episode is new or not.

Just add a new column to the podcast section of Rhythmbox

Solution #2: Show new episodes in bold

Just like most email programs indicate unread email by showing messages' subjects in bold, unheard podcast episodes could be indicated the same way.

background smbmount
Written by drdanielfc the 7 Sep 10 at 22:08. New
I have my entire music library stored on an external drive. However, in order to actually use it in a music player I need to either permanently mount the drive or run smbmount before opening my player - ugh!

Solution #1: Gui for smbmount
Written by drdanielfc the 7 Sep 10 at 22:08.
There should be a gui for smbmount (including an easy way to access it from nautilus) that allows you to set up a network share to automount itself WHEN ACCESSED, so if you are not online at time of login then you can still use it after connecting. The file should be mounted in a folder such as /network/COMPUTERNAME/DRIVENAME

Multiple version for Audio and/or manual conversion FLAC files for iPod transfer
Written by dsieburgh the 29 Jul 10 at 19:56. New
When I rip music to my computer I use the highest quality settings I can and have a large collection of FLAC files as part of my music library. The problem arises when I want to copy these to my iPod which does not accept these files. I end up having to manually convert these files to MP3 and then copy these over. I usually end up deleting these files after the transfer.

Solution #1: Automoatically Convert FLAC/WAV files to MP3 when transferring to device
Written by dsieburgh the 29 Jul 10 at 19:56.
I think it would be a great improvement for Banshee/Rhythmbox to create a temporary MP3 version of each FLAC/WAV file during the transfer process.

Solution #2: Support Automatic Transcoding
Written by Auzy the 30 Jul 10 at 06:50.
Players such as Songbird and winamp convert files on the fly for transfer to devices. Banshee should do the same
