As far as I can tell, there is no simple way to extract the contents of a win-32 self extracting exe in *buntu/Debian. Including the ability to right click on these and extract them or even a command line utility "exetract blah.exe" would be nice...

Consolidate Ark and File Roller

Currently, Ark and File Roller use many different libraries and backends to read and write different archive types.
This leads to file-roller not supporting some filetypes ark supports, and ark not supporting all of file-roller's.
KDE users may have to install file-roller to then have a GUI to extract some archives, and vice versa. This also leads to a lot of redundant libraries when both are installed.

Solution #1: Consolidate Ark's and File Roller's backends

Find out which backends are redundant, which libraries are better and easier to work with, make the necessary modifications to both ark and file-roller so they use the same backend for everything, support a common format plugin interface, don't pull different dependencies.
